Real quick: are we doing “Abel Tesfaye” for this? Because most of the news reports and reviews of The Idol are putting “The Weeknd” in the headlines, but that’s not how he’s credited in the show, right? We just want to get things right because someone laughed at us one time for listing Machine Gun Kelly as Colson Baker at a premiere of his movie and now we’re emotionally scarred from it. Anyway, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, Lily Rose Depp and showrunner Sam Levinson hit the Cannes red carpet ahead of the screening of the first two episodes of their already controversial upcoming HBO series The Idol. Are we a little pleased that the reviews have been scathing because we think the guy on the right is wildly over-rated and the press on this series made it sound downright revolting? Yes. Maybe just a weensy bit. But we’ll stick to the shallow end of the pool and just judge their outfits.

Let’s face it: she’s the only point of interest here. We don’t particularly care what showrunners or directors wear unless they’re stars in their own right, but Levinson is fine. The Valentino logo on the shirt cuff is a bit much. Mr. Abel-The Weeknd-Tesfaye is also looking quite fine. His tux is perfectly fitted in a looser style and the larger style of shoe works well with it. Gotta say, she looks pretty gorgeous here. It’s a cute, saucy, sex kitten-style dress with a little bit of that ooh-la-la going on, but somehow, it doesn’t seem stale. That flower detail is doing a lot of work here.
