We’re continuing the countdown of our picks for the best red carpet looks of the year, darlings! Part One is here! LFG!
15. Catherine Duchess of Cambridge in Roland Mouret at the TOP GUN: MAVERICK UK Premiere
In the middle of a fairly tumultuous period for the royal family, the Duchess-now-Princess Cathy managed to find a little time for some low-key royal glam as she let the Last Movie Star (Tom Cruise) take her hand and lead her away from her prince at the London premiere of Top Gun: Maverick. It was a rare moment of pure celebrity glam for a figure who has opted to keep herself restrained at all times while in the public eye. Of course a gown like this would seem a little sedate on an actual movie star, but for a royal – specifically this royal – this is pretty showy. It was the best she looked all year.
14. Machine Gun Kelly in Dolce & Gabbana at the Berlin International Film Festival
It’s been a fabulous red carpet year for Mr. Kelly and we were hard-pressed to whittle his various style efforts down to one entry. In the end, we chose one of his more conventional looks of the year, if only because it’s probably the sharpest. For us, this ensemble comes down to the accessorizing, with the jewelry and shoes doing a lot of the work of sharpening the look.
13. Jessica Chastain in Gucci at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party
Because this is the dictionary definition of “Va Va Voom,” that’s why. No one does Jessica Rabbit Chic better than Jessica Chastain right now.
12. Nicola Coughlan in Richard Quinn at the Met Gala
An utter confection of a dress on the perfect wearer for it, topped off by a killer face beat. We love how this combines an over-the-top extra-ness with touches of restrained chicness. There was never any doubt we’d be placing this look on the list as it was easily among our favorites of the year.
11. Letitia Wright in Prada at the BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER London Premiere
If we had to pick the best Minimalist Chic look of the year, this would be the one, hands down. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Star Letitia Wright had herself a very stylish promotional tour, but of all the looks she unveiled, this was the one that stood out most to us. A flawless and relatively simple gown, punctuated with just a few touches of gorgeous jewelry, topped off by a face that could launch a cosmetics ad campaign. She looked amazing here.
Stay tuned for Part THREE as we hit the TOP TEN LOOKS OF 2022!
