First, we should say “Welcome back to the judging spotlight, Brie Larson.” This is her first red carpet appearance on this site since the Before Times and we still feel the need to mark that occasion when it happens. We’re sentimental softies that way. Unforch for her, we’re also judgmental bitches and we tend to think when one has the opportunity to wear a stunning custom Oscar de la Renta cape, one rises to the occasion. We think a garment as dazzling as that calls for styling that can meet that dazzle. She’s always had a preference for a clean face and unfussy hair. We agree with her that it’s the best way to frame her looks and illustrate her personality. What we don’t get is why she consistently pairs the low-key styling that suits her with these extremely high-key looks. The hair, makeup, delicate earrings and neutral mani/pedi would all look great in something breezy and light with a little Boho touch to it. It just feels off when you pair that styling with such a high-glitz, high-impact look. Are we wrong? Also, isn’t that top kind of awful? We do love that the cape is paired with pants, though. As we said, the final call comes down to y’all, so let’s hear it.
