Oh, Miss Rebecca Hall did not comes to Cannes to play, darlings. This is about as loud and clear a “I came to slay” gown as you’ll find in any drag pageant.
Putting aside the eye-popping dress for a second, it’s notable – and appealing – to us how she really leans into her own looks with her styling choices. From the Joker-fied lip to the chandelier earrings to the platforms, she’s accentuating her own physicality in ways that really work in service to the gown and increase the drama factor of the entire look considerably. She doesn’t just stand out on the stage or on those famously crowded steps; she is impossible to avoid. The dress could be called drag-tacky, but we think her suitability to it and some masterful styling give it a high-impact, almost editorial feel to it. Besides, Cannes has a long history of tacky outfits, so she’s just engaging in a long Riviera red carpet tradition.
