“The Lost Daughter” Star Paul Mescal in Gucci at the British Fashion Awards

We’re always looking for ways to be equal opportunity judgers and nothing presents that chance more readily than a male star who took a risk. In other words, let’s judge a boy, kittens.

We feel like perhaps we’re being a little mean to Paul Mescal by submitting this particular risk to the judgment spotlight, but then again, he’s the one who took the risk; said risk being a yellow brocade jacket and a Colonel Sanders tie, among other choices on display here. We’re always trying to gently (or sometimes not so gently) coax male stars into doing a little more peacocking on the red carpet so we want to be encouraging here. On the other hand, yellow is so very clearly NOT his color and the skin-bouncing effect is only made worse by a shirt that pretty much matches his skin. We can’t tell if the yellow is washing him out or if he’s wearing a little too much makeup, but something’s not quite working here. We tend to like seeing Gucci on the red carpet, but some stars should probably just steer clear of its retro party vibe.
