We were all prepared to be rapturous at the site of Gal Gadot in a red sequined gown on the red carpet. It’s a style she’s returned to many a time since her initial Wonder Woman days. It seems like she utilized it a lot when doing promotional work for that character and wound up making it one of her go-to looks. You’d think she’d want to avoid the Wonder Woman-esque fashion while promoting a non Wonder Woman film (especially since Wonder Woman 1984 was a critical and financial disappointment), but it turns out she’s doing a different sort of character cosplay.
Of course she looks amazing in red, which is why she returns to it and also why her character is wrapped in it for the film’s poster. It’s just a little weird to show up in something so similar to pose in front of that poster. Granted, they’re very different dresses in a lot of not insignificant ways (color, length, textile, neckline, bodice), but it still feels like a slightly goofy choice. It doesn’t help that the dress she’s wearing isn’t nearly as nice as the one on the picture behind her. We’re not loving this trend for ruffled or embellished skirt slits.
