FX’s “Impeachment: American Crime Story” Star-Studded Trailer is Causing Us to Form Opinions

Welp. There it is.

On September 7th, Ryan Murphy’s exceedingly well cast take on the Clinton impeachment hits the world and we are all about to be inundated with so many bad takes on a quarter-century old scandal that we don’t think it’s possible to prepare for it. Personally, we’re not all that excited to return to those tawdry days, but if there’s one redeeming factor (aside from the aforementioned cast of heavy-hitters), it’s that Monica Lewinsky is a producer of this series which means on some level, she’s getting the opportunity to tell her version of one of the biggest political stories of all time. And while we might have some quibbles about Clive Owen playing Bill and Edie Falco playing Hillary, it’s probably impossible for anyone to play the Clintons without the casting coming off a little distracting. On the other hand, Beanie Feldstein as Monica looks like a winner to us. Not too thrilled about Sarah Paulson lugging a fat suit around to play Linda Tripp when there are plenty of above-size-2 actresses who could’ve done the job as well or better. Cobie Smulders looks pretty great as Ann Coulter, although it’s a shame Betty Gilpin had to leave the production for scheduling reasons because she probably would have been amazing capturing her particular brand of clench-jawed crazy.

Are we going to be watching?

OF COURSE we are.

FX’s award-winning series returns. Watch the OFFICIAL TRAILER for Impeachment: American Crime Story – starring Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp and Beanie Feldstein as Monica Lewinsky. Premieres September 7, only on FX.

Impeachment: American Crime Story examines the national crisis that led to the first impeachment of a U.S. President in over a century through the eyes of the women at the center of the events: Monica Lewinsky, Linda Tripp and Paula Jones. All three were thrust into the public spotlight during a time of corrosive partisan rancor, shifting sexual politics and a changing media landscape.
