Putting on a head-turning dress with a cray design element or two is just another night of the week for Cynthia Erivo these days. The Genius: Aretha star has been driving a relentless train of self-promotion using high fashion for months now, never letting a little thing like a worldwide pandemic slow her down. Personally, we’re not a hundred percent feeling this one, but it’s in keeping with her style preferences by being slightly odd and unexpected with some very heavy styling to give it that distinct Erivo edge.

It’s… interesting to look at but we’d suggest that she’s the reason for that more than the dress itself. It’s an odd choice to say the least to have a partially unlined lattice-work bodice and a modesty panel over the décolletage at the same time. Looking at the model below, we think the focal point is supposed to be the skirt, but it’s hard to tear the eye away from everything that going on in the top half. As always with her, the jewelry is fantastic, but it’s not enough to rescue a fairly unworkable collection of design elements, we think.
