Miss Maria is doing everything exactly right. After securing BAFTA and Oscar noms for a role that required her to watch Rudy Giuliani fondle himself, not only has she been serving lewk after lewk, but she’s been smartly positioning herself as a traditional ingenue; all princess dresses and romanticism.

This is clearly way too fussy a dress for normal red carpet appearances. Even here, the skirt is looking hellaciously wrinkled on the bottom. And while we can’t say we’re in love with the butterflies on the sleeves, we’re fairly far away from the perspective of a young actress who’s getting to wear whatever high fashion she can snag while her buzz is hot. In other words, they’re not to our tastes, but we can see the appeal. Regardless, the overall look is cute, pretty and a great way of signaling that she’s reached the upper echelons of her career.
