It’s all so very Chrissy; that open flaunting of celebrity and glamour with a domestic-goddess branding vibe. As we said in our last post about her (and we thank her for giving us these fashion gifts during a drought), her fashion choices tend toward exuberant volume combined with a little skin-baring. In this case it’s an enormous fluff of a Pamella Roland gown, with maximum leggage. It’s a cutely staged and styled shoot. Unforch, posting it on her social media seems to have been the straw that broke her twitter back. After a round of backlash for … well, does it matter? For being rich and frivolous and Very Online, mainly. Chrissy has been getting quite the rough ride on Twitter for some time now and this last round of attacks drove her off the site after making a heartfelt goodbye message.

We’ve followed her for a while and honestly, this is the best choice she can make. Despite a tendency to get into social media slapfests, she didn’t deserve the constant harassment. If you follow a swimsuit model/lifestyle brand/spouse of a world-famous pop star, you really have no business getting mad at her when she flaunts her wealth or the glamour of her life. That’s who she is. But when you follow a heavy user on social media for a while, you get a sense of when they’re becoming Too Online and she’d passed that point a while back. Her miscarriage and the subsequent social media messages that arose out of it really changed her relationship with the app and it was only a matter of time before that level of emotional engagement with a following in the millions was going to become too much for her to bear, especially when you factor in the elevated level of harassment women of color receive on social media. She made the right choice.
