A story about people with amazing bone structure and extravagant problems.

Aw, we’re just being snarky assholes because … *gestures toward everything*

A gripping, character-driven thriller based on the 2012 New York Times best-selling novel of the same name, and starring Chris Evans, Michelle Dockery, Jaeden Martell, Cherry Jones, Pablo Schreiber, Betty Gabriel and Sakina Jaffrey. The limited drama series unfolds around a shocking crime that rocks a small Massachusetts town and one family in particular, forcing an assistant district attorney to choose between his sworn duty to uphold justice and his unconditional love for his son.

“Defending Jacob” is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Anonymous Content, and created, written and executive produced by Mark Bomback, who also serves as showrunner. All eight episodes of the series are directed by Academy Award nominee Morten Tyldum, who also serves as executive producer. Chris Evans stars and executive produces, alongside Rosalie Swedlin and Adam Shulman who executive produce for Anonymous Content.

Honestly, it looks pretty great all-around. We’re struck by two things: How good Michelle Dockery is with the American accent and what an unusual sort of energy arises when she’s paired up with Chris Evans. It’s a little amusing to see these two stunners playing the put-upon, furrowed-brow parents of a teenager, because it’s clearly impossible to make them look average in any way. They look like they’re glowing when surrounded by other actors. We’re not sure why the combo of these two feels so odd to us, since Dockery’s sister-from-another-mister Hayley Atwell just concluded portraying a decade-long, much-beloved romance story with Evans.

It just sort of feels like Lady Mary running off with Captain America – although that does, in retrospect, kinda sound like something Lady Mary would do, if given the chance.

Honestly, we’re just wool-gathering here. This does look good and most of our interest comes down to the casting. We want to see what these two are like against each other.
