A total reassessment. We actually hated this on the night of, but now we’re finding it perfectly chic and sexy in that patented Theron sort of way.

Charlize always does well with more or less traditional Hollywood glam and it doesn’t get more traditional than a sexy, shimmering gown. We’re especially happy to see that SOMEONE understands that formal womenswear with a plunging neckline is practically demanding you slap a pendant on it. The jewelry, hair and makeup are all frickin’ fabulous, but the shoes are surprisingly disappointing. As for the jacket, it was the main reason why our initial response to this look wasn’t good and to be honest, we’re still not feeling it. You can wear a tuxedo jacket over a formal gown and come out looking stylish, but the proportions really feel off here, with the high slit, undefined waist and plunging neckline. It’s either fighting elements (like the slit) or obscuring them (like the waist).
