2020 Screen Actors Guild Award Nominations: Motion Picture

Posted on December 11, 2019

The TV SAG Award noms are here, darlings. Now let’s tuck into the WORLD OF CINEMA.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
CHRISTIAN BALE / Ken Miles – “FORD v FERRARI”
LEONARDO DiCAPRIO / Rick Dalton — “ONCE UPON A TIME…IN HOLLYWOOD”
ADAM DRIVER / Charlie Barber – “MARRIAGE STORY”
TARON EGERTON / Elton John – “ROCKETMAN”
JOAQUIN PHOENIX / Arthur Fleck – “JOKER”

It’s Phoenix’s to lose, but we’d pick Driver, if only for that argument scene.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
CYNTHIA ERIVO / Harriet/Minty – “HARRIET”
SCARLETT JOHANSSON / Nicole Barber – “MARRIAGE STORY”
LUPITA NYONG’O / Adelaide Wilson/Red – “US”
CHARLIZE THERON / Megyn Kelly – “BOMBSHELL”
RENÉE ZELLWEGER / Judy Garland – “JUDY”

We’d pick Zellweger, but we wouldn’t mind if Nyong’o took it. We didn’t like Us at all, but her performance was something to behold and we’re glad it’s getting recognition.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role
JAMIE FOXX / Walter McMillian – “JUST MERCY”
TOM HANKS / Fred Rogers – “A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD”
AL PACINO / Jimmy Hoffa – “THE IRISHMAN”
JOE PESCI / Russell Bufalino – “THE IRISHMAN”
BRAD PITT / Cliff Booth – “ONCE UPON A TIME…IN HOLLYWOOD

For us, it comes down to Pitt vs. Pesci.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role
LAURA DERN / Nora Fanshaw – “MARRIAGE STORY”
SCARLETT JOHANSSON / Rosie – “JOJO RABBIT
NICOLE KIDMAN / Gretchen Carlson – “BOMBSHELL”
JENNIFER LOPEZ / Ramona – “HUSTLERS”
MARGOT ROBBIE / Kayla Pospisil – “BOMBSHELL”

Another Dern vs. J Lo cagematch.

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
“BOMBSHELL”
“THE IRISHMAN”
“JOJO RABBIT”
“ONCE UPON A TIME…IN HOLLYWOOD”
“PARASITE”

Haven’t seen Bombshell yet, but it seems to us that any of these casts would make a worthy win.

Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture
“AVENGERS: ENDGAME”
“FORD v FERRARI”
“THE IRISHMAN”
“JOKER”
“ONCE UPON A TIME…IN HOLLYWOOD”

We can’t imagine the kind of work and planning that went into stunt-coordinating Avengers: Endgame.
