This movie looks both really good and really depressing, which makes us consider just how one should dress while promoting one’s downer of a film. Adam went for his usual while Laura and Scarlett took a little style swerve.
And they clearly didn’t coordinate with each other.
Laura Dern in Dior
Dior or not, a red-and-black buffalo plaid is always going to look like a camping blanket – especially if you insist on fringing up the hem. It’s not a bad dress, but it does feel a bit off-brand for her. She does much better with ensembles that play into her tall, lean angularity; sharp cuts, more extreme silhouettes, that sort of thing. Also, weirdly, we don’t think she handles print all that well.
Adam Driver
We sure hope this doesn’t sound backhanded or weird, but he’s got such an interesting face that he’s actually well-served in these retro-minimalist suit styles. In other words, the Secret Service or Man in Black look really does something for him. We try and picture him in trendier or more photogenic fashion and it doesn’t quite work.
Scarlett Johansson in Michael Kors Collection
Considering it’s a cropped rugby shirt paired with the most pleated pants in history, this is working a lot better than we would have thought. We like everything from the waist down (although we’re not sure the white belt/black sandal thing works, even if we’re not normally sticklers for that sort of thing). And we even think a crop top makes the most sense with pants like these. But we just can’t sign off on that top. The white collar and placket stick out like sore thumbs and the sleeve length is awkward. It just looks like she’s wearing some kid’s shirt.
