As the two grumps who all-too-frequently complain that her style team dresses her precociously at times, please allow us to state for the record that we don’t necessarily think little lacy white party dresses with bows are quite the way she needs to go. On the other hand…

… we have no real problem with this. It’s a bit too far in the opposite direction from her usual style approach – from precociously sophisticated to demurely juvenile – but this is Givenchy couture, which does tend to lend it some level of sophistication to cut through all the sweetness. And yes, that’s ironic, considering how much we’ve complained about her Vogue-cover levels of sophistication on the red carpet. But because the dress is so girlishly sweet in tone but clearly high-end in execution, things like the cutouts, the severe hair, the dark nails, the flawless makeup and the somewhat low-key jewelry are all working well to strike a balance between cheek-sucking high fashion and youthful expression. Our only real quibble is with the shoes. They’re kind of ugly and we think white was not the way to go.
