Darlings, the red carpet was a bumpy road this week, with a lot of mediocre efforts, even from the A-list attention-getters of the moment. Come with us on a journey through the land of the least interesting and help us judge these stars for their flawed or half-assed efforts.
Also Celine Dion, who is her own special fashion creature, apart and above these other mortals.
Adam Rippon
That looks like a ladyjacket, mister.
Anya Taylor-Joy in Vivienne Westwood
She’s got the exact looks to pull something like this off, even though we find it kind of cliched and chintzy-looking.
Armie Hammer
Lazy.
Billy Eichner
A big man in a tiny jacket and a skin-colored shirt. Do better, sir.
Céline Dion in Ronald Van Der Kemp
Fierce.
Céline Dion in Valentino
Fiercer.
Christina Hendricks
The skirt is cute and the pumps work with it, even if they do look like they’re murdering her feet. The rest of it feels kind of generic, but it’s not like she’s at a high-profile event. Works for us.
Christina Hendricks in Etro
Oh for God’s sake. Really, lady?
David Oyelowo
Newp. That looks ridiculous.
Ellie Kemper
It’s cute enough and it suits her well enough. We suppose our only complaint is that it feels like doll clothes; stale and twee.
Gal Gadot in Saint Laurent
Miss Gal, you almost had us on this one. We were ready to embrace the drama of the whole lesbian vampire thing you’ve got going on here, and we were willing to overlook the sheer top and weird waist-shaper/cummerbund thing, but then we got to the bottom and the whole look collapses. This is not a look that calls for capri pants and sandals at the bottom. It starts off almost gothy formal and then ends up beachy at the bottom. Weird.
Henry Golding
He’s dressed right for a fashion event but it sure doesn’t make for a great look for pictures.
Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson
Love them. We cannot say the same about their outfits.
Jamie Alexander in Saloni
That skirt is freaking hideous and those gigantic shoes aren’t helping matters.
Jane Krakowski
It’s a nice enough design in a great color but it looks a bit small on her and we hate those shoes.
Kate Beckinsale in Julien Macdonald
The woman’s got an adult daughter and she can still serve up Party Girl Supreme lewks like this. It’s tacky, but it’s hot.
Laura Carmichael in Schiaparelli
Big no on that skirt, dear.
Miss Fame
FIERCE.
Rita Ora in Dundas
Did your dress get wrapped around the agitator in your washer, dear?
Sarah Paulson in Marshmallow
It’s got that Paulson touch of being ridiculously bold and purposefully clashing, but we can’t say we love the combo here.
Tina Fey
New York Writer Chic. Perfect for her in every way.
