Those slightly hard-working duchesses had themselves a semi-busy weekend, which means we’ve got some catching up to do this Monday morning. Of course, given the nature of the events they attended, the fashion options were extremely limited.

It’s fine. Subdued was the expected direction for her to go, so we can’t really say much here. Personally, we think she could’ve gotten away with something a bit less funereal in tone, in terms of the dress design, but it’s fine.
As we noted during her tour, Megs leans further into the belted waist the more she pops out. The coat’s pretty cute.

Damn, Duchess. Cathy’s always excelled at outerwear and has shown an increasing adeptness at subtly working military undertones into her fashion without coming off like a poser. Combine all that with the growing sense of maturity and stateliness in her style, which has ramped up considerably in the last year or two, and you’ve got one uncommonly killer look. These are the current and future Queens, and we’ve gotta say, Kate looks WAY more up for the role than Camilla does. What a flawlessly executed bit of fashion theater.
Meghan doesn’t have to live up to such lofty expectations and she’s currently heir-baking, so her minimalism and understated style are serving her well here. We still don’t think her hat game is as good as it could be, although it’s understandable why she might need some time to figure it out since she’s probably worn more dressy and formal hats in the last six months than she wore for most of her adult life. The coat is nice and we especially love the shoulder detail and the choice of one large poppy, which comes off more dramatic against the simple coat.

Megs has got her fave neckline and fave waistline in place. In other instances we might ding her for being so limited in her style, but it’s all serving her really well here and she looks great. The classic beret remains a very good fall-back hat for her.
Once again, Cathy shows her adeptness at doing military homages without looking like cosplay. It’s a skill she needed to develop since she’s going to spend the rest of her life doing it. Note how her hat is essentially a fabric tiara. Serving you military and regal realness while being completely subtle about it in every way. She’s gotten so good at the semiotic part of the job.
