It’s a question every girl asks herself at least once in her life: “What am I going to wear to the launch of my new fragrance?” Thankfully, we have Rihanna and Katy Perry, who are blazing trails in this exciting new arena of celebrity branding and money-making. Let’s see how they did.
“Reb’l Fleur?” Sounds like someone talking with their mouth full. At any rate, Rihanna chose a sultry, classic-inspired, Joan Holloway for the 21st Century kind of look. It’s sexy and feminine, and has a New York City feel to it. Rihanna is saying, “I smell like men want to take me out for drinks and give me diamonds.”
Katy on the other hand named her perfume “Purr,” because Katy is all about being simple and direct. She would have called it “Smells Like My Lady Area” but that wouldn’t fit on a bottle. Unlike Rihanna and her cool, mid-Century-inspired Manhattan sophistication, Katy is Down Under, flogging a cat-shaped bottle of stink with a bunch of Australian girls dressed like Josie and the Pussycats and wearing a dress that looks like a “hologram cover” on a late ’80s Trapper Keeper. Katy is saying, “I smell loud and crazy, but fun.”
Which girl do you want to be?
