Michelle Williams for Louis Vuitton Spring 2014 Ad Campaign

Posted on April 16, 2014

It’s funny. We were just wondering the other day when her next project is coming out because we miss covering her. It’s true. These are the kinds of conversations we have now. “Gosh, I miss Michelle Williams, don’t you, honey?”  Friends and family look at us like we’re nuts.

(Spoiler alert: They always looked at us like that.)

Anyway.

Give it up for the girl. She sure can work the hell out of a lens.  Gorgeous shots.

I actually hadn’t thought of her in ages until @Flavia Pantoja referenced her yellow Oscars dress the other day. She really does work a yellow!

      • sk8tfan

That was one of my all time favorite Oscar looks. She kills it in yellow.

        • Raspberry2012

          I’ve always loved that look!

      • Lucía Gavello

I didn’t actually see the comment but I bet it was on the post of Emma Stone’s yellow dress because I thought the same thing. That Oscars dress was dreamy and bold at the same time. I love her in any colour though ;)

    • RussellH88

Isn’t she getting ready to star in the revival of Cabaret?

      • SEPA_Q

Already in previews. Official opening soon. With Alan Cumming. Have my tickets in hand. Missed him first time around. No way am I doing that again!

        • Fanny_Trollope

Saw him in the first incarnation. Highly recommend.

          • Kent Roby

Me, too, I saw AC and Natasha Richardson in the show when it first opened in the space (formerly Studio 54, I think?) that gave it the gritty nightclub feel. That was a pretty amazing experience.

            • Denise Alden

Stop it, all of you! My jealousy is unbecoming! :) I love Alan Cumming without reason and I can’t imagine seeing him on stage. I’d be struck dumb as well as stupid.

            • Kent Roby

He is the rare man who can somehow wear backwards suspenders, no shirt, and painted nipples (in the show) and make it work.

            • Lucía Gavello

Oh but honey! There is plenty of reason to love Alan! ;)

            • Constant Reader

I saw what you did there. :)

        • JulieTy

Saw it a few weeks ago. Fabulous (him), and she acquitted herself well. Brought a touching fragility to the character.
Off topic: saw Of Mice and Men last night. Chris O’Dowd was beyond amazing.HIGHLY recommended.

          • berkeleygirl

Of Mice and Men is one show that I don’t think I could endure in a theater. The ending destroys me. If Chris O’Dowd – whom I adore – is half as good as you say, I’d probably howl so loud, the audience would kill me.

            • JulieTy

I adore him too. He truly disappears into the role and is so physically unlike himself (shaved head, big black beard, American accent) that I was able to stifle my howls. Tonight is opening night — we’ll see if the critics agree tomorrow!

            • PeaceBang

              *nodding*

          • Jacob Bowen

I would never consider seeing Of Mice and Men normally, but Chris O’Dowd wins my heart.

        • julnyes

Had tickets to the first time around, but the understudy came on in place of AC. Horribly depressing, though the understudy (whose name is escaping me at the moment) was absolutely fantastic. I definitely want to try and see it with AC this time!

    • BlairBear

I really like these ads. First and foremost she recognizably looks like Michelle Williams so either they used a skilled / light hand on the photoshop or her features are so distinct that photoshop doesn’t erase them. I do kind of miss seeing her out and about on my computer screen

    • thecitysleeps

This is a gorgeous campaign. She’s perfect for these kind of shots. Love the hair and the bare feet. And I want everything that is on her and around her really.

    • Linderella

One of the few actors of either gender whose photo shoots don’t look scream “Actor.” She works these photos and the handbags like a model. Stunning photos (and handbags, too!).
ETA: Is that an oversize trunk, or is she really that tiny?

      • Leah Elzinga

        I’m thinking both.

      • PlethoraofBooks

She is a lot tinier than people realize.

Also – I want that trunk. The purses are nice too – but I want that over sized trunk badly!

    • KT

She looks fantastic in these. That haircut is really working now — I remember it looked a bit awkward when she first got it cut.

Those clashing yellow are REALLY hurting my eyes, though. Why would they pair those together?!?!?!

      • lalahartma

        I like the yellow/green combos!

      • FrigidDiva

That was the one thing that bugged me in these photos. Why put those together?

      • kimmeister

I was more off-put by the clash of the red lips and the deep orange bag in the first photo.

      • Let it out

Her hair is so gorgeous. It’s giving her a much more womanly and sexy vibe. Who knew what 2 inches and some hairspray could do? Wait, that sounds wrong…

    • JauntyJohn

There are some gorgeous bags here. She looks dynamite.

I love all the shots except the “Ooops I fell in my giant suitcase!” pic. Somehow that kind of bugs.

      • Kent Roby

If I could fit in any sort of travel bag I’d reactivate Facebook just so I could use the picture as my cover photo!

      • melisaurus

Oh I just don’t like the “…can’t stand up must lean artfully against this wall” shots.

    • alyce1213

This is a really excellent spread. It’s clean, direct, great colors (and neutrals), she looks great, and the bags are beautiful.

    • j_am

      She looks STUNNING.

      • BayTampaBay

I think that is the best make-up I have seen in a very long time on anyone.

    • Leah Elzinga

I LOVE this campaign. It makes me want pretty much every one of those bags, and that’s not something I thought I’d be saying about LV bags.

      • littlemac8

No, look again, Her hair is parted on a different side and there is a curl on her cheek in one but not in the other.

        • Leah Elzinga

I’ll give you the hair, but the face is still freakishly similar… It’s still freaking out, maybe more so if it is a case of PS in that they would have sliced just her face off and copied and pasted it… OR she has an UNCANNY ability to make the EXACT same face, at the EXACT same angle. Either way, I’m squicked out.

    • homofascist

I really wish I had a bright orange LV bag that I could just walk down the street with, occasionally stopping to just pose.

    • lalahartma

I think it’s pretty bland with some actually bad shots, but some pretty ones and maybe a couple good shots!

    • Hope Leith

funny how ubiquitous that haircut is now, her and Jennifer Lawrence and Elsa Pataky, even much the same shade of blonde

    • @Biting Panda

Beautiful. A little more variety in facial expression wouldn’t have hurt my feelings.

      • Sarah

Yeah me too. She looks great but there isn’t much variation in her face throughout.

    • gayle

This to me is the polar opposite of the JLaw/Dior nightmare. I love everyone of these adds and the previous batch, Michelle looks beautiful.

    • hughman

“THE ALARM WENT OFF! GRAB THE BAGS, LEAVE THE SHOES!”

      • DuBey2

Except when you smuggle me out in the steamer trunk. THEN, I’ll need shoes.

    • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

      love.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Not ONE purse = crotch shot. Brill! Novel!

    • ashtangajunkie

I live for these photos. Granted, she’s a favourite, but I just think she looks smashing here.

    • Latin Buddy

How did WB Dawson’s Creek generic girl turn into a fierce indie model? Is it the pixie hair?

    • Frank_821

I actually love the trunk shot. It’s so wonderfully absurd

    • sugarkane105

I was afraid it was going to be bunch of cray-cray after the first pic with the ridiculous “oh hey, just holding my bag over my head” pose. But this is a really, really beautiful ad campaign. Nicely done.

    • decormaven

Props to the MUA- her lips look great in these shots. She comports herself well in these shots with the products.

    • Garcia Loca

It’s kind of odd for an actress to work 1 facial expression in the entire series.

    • stubbornthoughts

I love the fact that she has life in her eyes. Too many female editorials rest heavily on making those dead-eye, doe-eye expressions. Great spread.

      • DuBey2

Wish I could like this times x1000.

    • mmebam

      I’ll take that blush tote/satchel, please…

    • Anne

      Gorgeous photos!

Did you guys (and by that I mean Tom and Lorenzo or any of the Bitter Kittens) happen to see the article in the NY Times style section about Lupita Nyong’o becoming the new face of Lancôme? I was fascinated. It had never really occurred to me that taking a lucrative print ad contract could mean that an actress could pick and choose her film projects more carefully. I’m going to be paying closer attention now!

      • MilaXX

Yep, saw it and I’m extremely happy for her.

    • ChiKat67

I need the orange epi from the first shot!

    • Kent Roby

I love all these shots. Also, don’t feel bad; I also say things like “Honey, I miss Michele Williams”….to my dog.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Is her name Honey or are you just affectionate?

        • Kent Roby

His name is Adam, which only makes me that much more certifiably crazy. If it weren’t for him I’d probably be telling jokes to appliances.

          • kimmeister

I call my both cats AND my husband “honey.” Sometimes my husband doesn’t realize when I’m calling out to him because he thinks I’m talking to the cats.

            • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

My husband calls us “his cats”. We assume he means both of us until context indicates otherwise.

            • Beardslee

My cat is nicknamed the Queen and my daughter is the Baby Queen. My daughter doesn’t mind and my cat has no opinion.

            • DuBey2

My cat is The Queen of Sheba. But mostly we just call her Goodkitty, hoping that positive reinforcement will have some influence. Because she does inDEED believe she is the Queen of a small country.

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I like people names for animals. My aunt and uncle had a cat called Colin, which I think is brilliant.

            • Ginmaru

First or last names? We live with Tesla ( big, goofy male tabby) and Isabeau (tiny, silky female tuxedo). On the other hand my kids are Samuel Tycho and Corwyn Alexander. Go figure.

            • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Great names! Is Isabeau crazy? My husband reckons that all tuxedo cats are lunatics.

            • Constant Reader

I have a tuxedo cat named Fred Astaire and he is definitely a lunatic. But a cute lunatic!

            • Ginmaru

Yes! We got her from Craigslist and her first family was very OCD which we aren’t. She will cry to be let into the bedroom even if the door is open. But she loves my husband and would defend him fiercely will all of her tiny self.

            • demidaemon

My last cat was named Rita, after Rita Repulsa of Power Rangers fame (she was born when I was on a big Power Rangers kick, way, way back in the day).

          • formerlyAnon

Expressing one’s thoughts out loud whether or not there’s an audience is perfectly fine in one’s own home. Outside of it, well, use moderation.

(Of course, I AM the person whose daughter said, in complete seriousness, when she moved out leaving me alone in the house, “Mom you really need to get a dog. Or people are going to know you’re talking to yourself and think you’re crazy.”)

    • Anna Vasquez

She looks great *and* her mouth is actually closed in several shots! See, models and spokespeople? It can be done! You can look hot with a closed mouth!

    • jilly_d

Love the shots and the bags. And I am positively green with envy over her hair. I’m currently growing out a pixie, and my hair is currently this exact length and nearly the same color…..but decidedly less fabulous. *pouts dramatically*

    • Nancer

      WOW. That face! Amazing.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

      That red bag is glorious.

    • kmk05

Perfect. I wish she had more than one facial expression in the later pictures, but they’re on point for an ad campaign. They showcase both the bags and the shoes/clothes perfectly.

    • Cheryl

Those are some gorgeous bags. And with careful arm placement even hides the logo. Her posing reminds me a little of a line in one of her movies “Shall I be her?”.

    • marlie

I love, love, love these. She looks stunning, AND she’s making me covet all the bags.

    • Myra Amler

Reminds me a bit of Annie Lennox in the first photo. I covet the red bag.

    • Danielle

That’s some serious bag porn. *grabby hands*

    • Cyd Butler

I want her haircut so badly but I know how that would end for me…. Let’s just say I don’t have the bone structure to pull it off. Fabulous photos and gorgeous bags. Well done!

    • Hermione

i need all the bags, of course, AND those black sandals in the fourth picture.

    • lunchcoma

These are adorable. Fun but not so over-thought that you can’t tell they’re ads for bags. Her image works well with the brand’s. They’re smart enough to let her look like herself instead of fighting her usual star image.

    • MilaXX

Love this and thankfully she looks more human than Nicole did in her photo shoot.

    • wisenhar

Cute. Do you think I could make that first one work as a murse? No? How about the green one? No? *sigh*

    • elirt

Love them all except for the first one, which looks ridiculous to me. who would hold a bag like that?

      • Kent Roby

Answer: Someone preparing to hit a person who is trying to steal the bag.

        • kimmeister

Hopefully it contains something very heavy so that it has more thwacking power.

    • Jessica Freeman

I feel like Michelle here has given the perfect poses for the celebs on the street hocking a bag. Put that shit on display like you mean it!

ETA: No shoes or FLATS people. God I just fell in love all over again.

    • SBG

She is perfection in my opinion.

    • d4divine

Hair, makeup, and clothes flawless…but her facial expressions…she coulda switched it up a bit.

    • conniemd

The bags look really boring. The only thing they offer is the logo so everyone knows you are sporting an EXPENSIVE Louis Vuitton bag. I do like how Michelle Williams looks.

    • jspark

Now I have the pictures to show my stylist. That’s a good color job.

    • Sugarbeetle

Nice how they paired her with the Alma (the orange bag and the yellow bag) as a shoutout to her character in Brokeback Mountain.

    • MGK

      STUNNING! Those brows are lovely.

    • kimmeister

Nice spread, I like that you don’t have to wonder what she’s hawking. Although I vehemently despise the black sandals.

    • DuBey2

I love it. I love it all. I haven’t even read any comments here yet so I wouldn’t be prejudiced in my view. Also I love how her lipstick doesn’t match.

    • Laylalola

Pretty, and striking ads. Still, I’ve never understood why a company would get a celebrity for an ad campaign and then make them pretty close to unrecognizable — if they didn’t want the star’s look in the first place, then really, why bother?

    • sagecreek

Wonderful. And so untwee. Good for you, lassie.

    • nannypoo

I’m glad she’s growing out that damn pixie. She looks good.

    • julnyes

She looks lovely, but I think the posing is a bit odd.

    • crash1212

I do believe she has the most perfect lips and brows in all the land. Gorgeous shoot.

    • Meg

So cute. Is it weird that I love the bare feet here?

      • mcbishop

Me too!! It was my favorite thing about the shots, surprising, fresh. Maybe I’m just sick of seeing women’s feet stuck in torture devices.

    • Jess Collett

These pics are great! They feel very sixties, like a breezy cycling holiday in the Italian countryside and nipping down to secret beaches.

    • Katie

This may be the first time I’ve scrolled through an ad campaign 4 times just because the pictures are so beautiful. Bravo to Miss Michelle and whoever styled these shots.
It’s funny because TLo has often (rightly) said that actors should bring more than typical broody model face to their photo shoots since, ya know, they act for a living. But this is a great example of an actress taking standard, pretty, model shots but killing it because she’s just as good as a professional model.
Also, for the first time in my life I want a louis bag… so additional props from a marketing point of view :)

    • Judy_S

“Expensive purses want to do me….”

    • bizarro

I so want to be her in these pictures.

    • KendraMR

Wow, I didn’t realize that she was so stunning. Beautiful photos.

    • StillGary

SHe looks more like Marilyn in this spread than she did in the movie!

    • twigg

I hate that first shot. It looks like she’s trying to use her bag to protect herself from rain or punches.

    • Qitkat

Nice bike. And the blue train case. I ‘hate’ women who can rock the windblown hair as well as she does ;-)

    • macwell

I love how she barely opens her mouth and still looks flawless.

    • Jacob Bowen

      This girl has PRESENCE.

    • andreawey

great pictures of her except the yellow bag and yellow dress clash horribly….

    • CT14

That’s the best she’s looked in ages.

Age-appropriate instead of twee. Who knew she could look so good?

    • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

Never mind me, just riding my vintage bicycle in granny panties and bare feet…

    • demidaemon

Sultry. I like the 3/4 profile shots better than the straight on ones.

    • mjmiller77

stunning. the 3rd shot gives me a Top Gun flashback tho. And I truly dislike the bottom of the black thing in the bike shot.

    • Vtg Fashion Library

Stunning. Her lips are just perfect in each shot.

    • Sara Brams-Miller

She is absolutely incredible. I wish I could rock hair like that. And her eyes are killer. I don’t think i’ve ever noticed that before!

    • Maya

These are “be me” photos. Or at least, as I was scrolling down I thought “I totally want to be her! She’s gorgeous.”

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

If I were her makeup artist (hey, now there’s a concept for a new blog, or reality show) I’d give her eyebrows more of a pointed arch. She is giving amazing face here, like the pro she is, and the simple curve of the eyebrows does not punctuate as it should. Take that first photo and imagine it with her eyebrows in a Liz Taylor-like peak (although not as thick as Liz’s were)–I think it would make a huge positive difference.

No charge for the advice, but if you feel you must thank me, LV, I’ll take that black bag with the snakeskin handle as a token of your appreciation.

    • Jecca2244

Forget the bags, I want the lipstick!!

i know it is awful, but I miss Heath every time I see her.

    • Joanna

Fierce as F***. That is all I can say!

    • MarissaLG

Gorgeous and stunning. Love the clothes, hair, makeup and yeah the bags are okay also. I kind of wish her toes were polished, but hey-what are you gonna do?

    • formerlyAnon

      Man, she’s beautiful in these.

    • Shawn EH

They better have showered her in free bags for this!

    • kalisa

Madly in love with that HAIR. (The bags are nice, too.)

    • jackie

need to know what that lipstick is please!!!

    • Raspberry2012

Must have the orange bag in the first picture! Correction: must have the thousands of bucks needed to have the orange bag in the first picture!

And Michelle looks fabulous, still has that pixie thing going on without being overly-twee. And it’s weird, I was just thinking of her the other day too! I don’t remember why or how, but I know she popped into my head earlier this week for some reason. It’s good to see her again.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Parfait! She can certainly sell a bag.

    • PeaceBang

Little Miss Pop Of Color And Her Special Relationships With Her Bags.

    • elzatelzabelz

Gorgeous, I need her lipstick colors. Gorgeous.

    • FridaStaire

Be me! Do me! Pop me in your trunk!

    • Qdahling

Gorgeous! Oh, are there bags in those pictures?

    • kim bunchalastnames

wow. she’s stunning in all these. DAMN.

    • Zuber

Fabulosity on display at its best!

    • Michele Pytleski

She looks very Tavi Gevinson in this.

    • jack lee

she is so beautiful, charming and sexy
