Met Gala night for us isn’t exactly a glamorous affair. One of us (L) is on the couch, laptop perched on knees, watching the stars arrive on E! and frantically trying to gather pictures and identify designers in order to get everything out on social media, and the other one (T) is at his desk, watching the Vogue life feed, writing a piece for Cosmo and occasionally yelling out things like “I NEED ID ON JOEY KING STAT!” Rare is the moment when the two of us come together as one during all of this, but when Halle Berry stepped out onto the red carpet, a cry of “NO, MA’AM” rang out in unison.
Sorry, no. Call us prissy gays if you want. We just got finished explaining why it’s okay for stars to come to the Met Gala without any pants on, but even we have our limits. We’re not scandalized but we do think this is tacky as hell. With a dress like this, you want to suggest that we can get a glimpse of your V. Bob Mackie made an entire legendary career out of that sort of design sleight-of-hand. You’re not supposed to actually give us a glimpse of your V. Putting that aside, the design simply isn’t flattering. The center stripe widens right at her hips, which distorts the shape of her body. The neckline and straps are awkwardly unflattering and the bust is way too tight on her. AND WHY IS HER NECKLACE CROOKED?!? You’re all so focused on making sure we can see her crotch that you can’t even get this poor woman properly zhuzhed for the cameras.
