As always with the Met Gala, if we don’t start slamming people together to do a mass judgement in one go, we’ll never get these outfits properly judged. We tend to dislike trend recaps like “Here are all of the people who wore black” or “Here are all of the metallics,” but we do them anyway because we’ve got product to move. Said product being our bitchy opinions, of course. But the 2025 Met Gala brought with it a fairly easy theme to navigate and interpret, and one of the most consistent style methods the attendees utilized to interpret dandy style was to put a hat on it. We haven’t seen this many hats on this many famous faces since Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
Angela Bassett in Burberry
Love her, but we’re afraid none of this works for us. The textile looks too much like upholstery and the hat is shaped weird.
Anna Sawai in Christian Dior
It’s gorgeous and it’s beautifully executed and it’s a damn shame no one checked ahead of time to see what Zendaya was wearing.
Hunter Schafer in Prada
Going with more or less conventional menswear is a somewhat basic and disappointing choice, but we love the beret. The turtleneck, not so much.
Jodie Turner-Smith in Burberry
BOW DOWN. While we absolutely love the commitment and the ostentation, we have to admit that we think this could’ve used some edits. The leather and the fabric are too similar and the look could have used some contrast.
Kerry Washington in Simkhai
It’s a fine look, but that flimsy skirt ruins it.
Kim Kardashian in Chrome Hearts
It’s okay. Given how controversial if not downright disastrous some of her Met Gala ensembles have been, we don’t mind it.
LaKeith Stanfield in Ferragamo
Gorgeous look, but the pants could use a hemming.
Louis Partridge in Prada
Spectacular. We tend to consider that hat a little douchey, but it turns out, it works great when you pair it with spats.
Lupita Nyong’o in Chanel
It’s a very feminine and floaty take on dandyism. The color looks gorgeous on her and we love the floaty layers of the pants. The hat looks too small and too perched on top of her head.
Shaboozey in Robert Wun
LOVE this and love him for really going for it. A theme like this doesn’t exactly encourage people to go more avant garde with their menswear choices, but he managed it beautifully. It’s strange and eye-catching and unique.
Taraji P. Henson in Monse x Post-Imperial
It was a night for hats and also a night for not wearing pants. The design’s a little basic, but she looks fun and fabulous.
Tessa Thompson in Prabal Gurung
The irregular hem is annoying, because we really shouldn’t seeing that much of the hem job (it would have been better at floor length anyway) but we love this whole offbeat Victorian vibe for her.
Teyana Taylor in Ruth E. Carter
We don’t think a single attendee did as good a job at embodying the themes of the exhibit and the gala. She looks amazing.
Whoopi Goldberg in Thom Browne
We really dislike the white part, but she’s so well suited to this style that we kinda wish she’d dress like this all the time. At the very least, Thom Browne would be a good go-to for her.
Before you angrily reply that we missed your fave, rest easy, kitten. Rihanna, Zendaya, Janelle, Diana, Lewis and Tracee all got their own spotlight posts.
