We were going to put Origin star Anjanue Ellis-Taylor’s Critics Choice Awards ensemble up to an IN or OUT vote, but at the last second, we couldn’t bring ourselves to do it. We love it far too much.

There’s a long history of dresses with menswear design elements, stretching back literally centuries. While the concept is anything but new, we don’t think we’ve ever seen a men’s suit-inspired gown with so much exuberance and drama to it. Mermaid hems and huge sleeve ruffles are almost never our bag, but we think this design would be so much less interesting without them. Of course the wrinkling isn’t helping the look, although we suspect this frock is nearly impossible to wrangle inside the average limo or SUV. Our only other quibble is with the dickey, which really should have been a full shirt. Her hair and makeup look fantastic with this.
