Good Lady Cate is at the Cannes Film Festival, darlings! You’re going to like this news even better: she’s there to promote The New Boy, in which she plays a “renegade nun” in 1940s Australia who takes in an orphaned Aboriginal boy, which sounds like just about the most Cate Blanchettiest of roles ever devised. We feel like she must have had “play a renegade nun at some point” on her career goal list and she’s just getting around to checking it off. For the film’s photo call, she sort of dressed like a renegade nun who has access to the Louis Vuitton closet:
It’s a little odd, this combination of beaded, embroidered pajamas, a massive decorative belt and black open-toed, chunky-heeled pumps. It feels uncharacteristically random; a collection of items that don’t quite come together, in our opinion. And yet, we’re not mad at it. In fact, the only part we’d really suggest changing is the shoe choice. We think if you’re gonna do the boho glam thing, put on a pair of beaded silver flat sandals to complete this look. But we’d probably try to talk her out of the belt too. That thing looks annoying to wear.
