L’s Pick: Zendaya in Tom Ford at the Critics’ Choice Awards
Lo’s Defense: It’s likely to go down as one of the most memorable red carpet looks of 2020 and we’re only halfway through January. The styling is what elevates everything here. It’s all in service to highlighting and showcasing the focus of the look. And given how goofy Gwynnie looked trying it, Zendaya deserves a lot of credit for making that breastplate look both fierce and effortless. An unforgettable red carpet moment.
T’s Pick: Cynthia Erivo in Fendi Couture at the Critics’ Choice Awards
T’s Defense: It’s such a uniquely memorable design on its own, but it looks somehow so much more … appropriate on her. Like Helen Mirren, she’s got a regal affect and a regal style to go with it. The way this gown plays with historical elements of both fashion design and architecture in one garment is brilliant, but probably extremely difficult to pull off without looking overwhelmed. Not if you’re Cynthia Erivo, evidently.
