Y’know, we were all set to hate this for the animal print alone.
Julia Roberts attends the 2014 GLSEN Respect Awards at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California in Gucci.
Not that we hate animal prints. We just find them overused sometimes – and by people who don’t necessarily have a knack for pulling them off. Someone like J Lo can live and breathe a succession of python and cat prints because it fits her whole diva schtick to a T. There’s nothing wrong with Julia Roberts wearing an animal print. It’s just that we didn’t think she was the kind of person who could make it work.
But that’s our own prejudices at play, because really, it’s fine. The issue here is not that she wore an animal print, but that her hair, dress and shoes are all the same color, which tends to make her look washed out. Also, we really hate that sleeve length combined with that prim little collar. It just frumpifies the look. Open a button or two and cuff those sleeves and the proportions would work better for her.
Really great shoes, but they’d have worked better for the outfit in black. And a belt would’ve been welcome.
Okay, Julia. Off you go, now. You’ve been assessed. Thank you for submitting yourself to our loving judgement.
