Queen Máxima wore a dress that we are duty-bound to hate. The Queen attended an anniversary performance marking the 200th anniversary of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and she sported what might have been a cute little date night dress except it has the one design element we have declared to be forbidden going forward. The queen is sporting feathers.

Not only that; the queen is sporting plastic shoes and her hair is flying all over the place. We should be enraged, but we we think the look is more fun than fashionable. After all, it’s a queen’s job to show up looking photogenic from a hundred yards away. Still, we just can’t get behind this frock. The feather hem is way too thick and heavy. The random panels of contrasting textiles are puckery and give the dress an odd graphic quality that feels like a team logo. The shoes are horrible. But we do love the color story and she looks great in that style of dress. Just get rid of all the foofaraw and she’d be fine.
