‘Heated Rivalry’ Creator Jacob Tierney Sets Netflix Drama About Alexander the Great and Aristotle With Jason Bateman as EP
“Heated Rivalry” creator Jacob Tierney has already set his next project.
Netflix has given a series order to “Alexander,” a drama series about Alexander the Great and Aristotle that Tierney will write, direct and executive produce. An adaptation of Annabel Lyon’s novel “The Golden Mean,” the series “begins as the Athenian empire is crumbling and the world’s greatest mind, Aristotle, arrives in Macedonia to tutor a volatile young prince, Alexander,” per the official description. “Amid palace intrigue, forbidden love, brutal war and ruthless ambitions, their unlikely friendship shapes an empire and alters the course of history.”
Brutally Honest Oscar Ballot #1: ‘Sentimental Value’ “Nearly Perfect,” “Didn’t Want [‘Hamnet’s] Jessie Buckley Turned Up to a 10 the Entire Time”
A female member of the Academy’s 719-person documentary branch who has no connection to any of this year’s nominees, granted a cloak of anonymity in return for candor, speaks with THR about her ballot.
I put Frankenstein at number 10 because I haven’t seen it, which is unfair, but I ran out of time and decided to check the box indicating that I had so that I could support other films. F1 was not for me — I watched about 45 minutes of it, and I didn’t need to watch more. I’m a huge fan of Yorgos Lanthimos, but Bugonia, while I admired its ambition and performances, did not work for me. I liked Train Dreams and thought it was visually beautiful, but I grew a little tired of the character’s point of view and didn’t find it especially unique. Marty Supreme was a great ride, but it ultimately felt like more of the same stuff we’ve seen from the Safdies, even if this one was just Josh. I admired The Secret Agent’s performances and design, but was not as captivated by the narrative as I wanted to be. Hamnet was emotional and beautifully rendered, but a bit overwrought — I didn’t want Jessie [Buckley] turned up to a 10 the entire time.
Vanessa Kirby on Character Beauty, Ice-Bath Facials, and Postpartum Skin Care
The actor and Lancôme ambassador talks about her glam evolution from The Crown to Marvel—plus her minimalist makeup formula.
When your job demands as much character range as Vanessa Kirby’s, it helps to have a beauty routine that brings you back to yourself.
You may know the 37-year-old actor from her role as Princess Margaret on Netflix’s The Crown, or from her Oscar-nominated performance in Pieces of a Woman. More recently she transformed into Sue Storm opposite Pedro Pascal in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps. To cement her status as a true industry chameleon, Kirby has also taken on the role of producer for projects like Night Always Comes and The Disciple. And as of last fall, she’s doing it all as a first-time mom.
I Just Learnt the Biggest Lesson on My Year-Long Nail Health Journey—It’s All About Choosing the Right Base Coat
A true game-changer
I have been very vocal about the sorry state of my nail beds. After years of bi-weekly salon appointments and one particularly disastrous set of acrylics, my previously healthy nails were changed for what seemed to be forevermore. They were peeling, brittle and wholly incapable of growing, so to the benefit of them (and my bank account), I cancelled all of my upcoming gel manicures. In fact, it’s been a year and four months since I stepped foot in a salon.
My nails are in a far better place today; they are finally growing, but they still tend to break and peel. As it turns out, I have been making one critical error: using the wrong base coat for my particular nail concerns. This, according to an expert manicurist, had been inadvertently impairing their recovery. My nails weren’t weak; they were dry, and by using a strengthening base coat, I was just dehydrating them further.

I’m Super Fit – But Still Couldn’t Do a Push-Up. Here’s What Finally Worked After Ten Years of Trying
With help from expert trainers, here’s what actually made the difference.
Nothing humbles me quite like my upper body strength. More specifically, my ability (or long-standing inability) to do a proper push-up.
I’ve always been able to manage the modified version, performed with my knees down. But take my knees off the floor, and suddenly everything changed. I could lower myself down and keep my chest hovering just above the mat, yet the journey back up felt impossible. My arms would shake, my core would lose tension, and gravity would win every time.
For years, I assumed it was a personal flaw – that I simply “wasn’t built” for push-ups. But physiologically speaking, the struggle makes sense. A study published in the European Journal of Sports Science found that women have significantly lower upper-body strength compared to men – roughly 40% less on average – largely due to differences in muscle mass distribution. That gap doesn’t mean women can’t build strength; it simply highlights that upper-body pushing movements may require more targeted training.
I Tried the “Chinese Baddie” Morning Hack Everyone’s Talking About – My Honest Review
Pop the kettle on – but don’t hold the tea.
Google search trends are truly a thing of wonder when it comes to observing what’s capturing the zeitgeist – and when it comes to health and fitness fads, it’s a veritable treasure trove of ideas. The latest life-changing hacks? ‘Chinese baddie’ rituals.
That’s right: a wildly viral social media trend also known as Chinamaxxing or #becomingChinese is all about taking small life hacks rooted in ancient Chinese wellness principles (think: wearing slippers in the house, enjoying Chinese food, and gentle movement practices like Tai Chi and Qigong) and respectfully and authentically using them to positively upscale wellbeing.
And trust us, it’s all over TikTok. While the practices may have garnered a somewhat questionable moniker, semantics aside, are there really any tangible benefits to ancient Chinese wellbeing rituals?

But as with every piece that crosses generations, there are many different ways to wear them that keeps things exciting.
Even Harry Styles knows this, as seen during his recent appearance on the BRITs red carpet where the singer wore a custom Chanel suit completed with a pair of simple black ballet pumps – little bows included.
13 best curl creams we tested for bouncy, defined curls
Multitasking products for softer, shinier strands.
The best curl creams can really take your hair care routine to the next level. For the uninitiated, these are styling products designed for use on coily, curly, and wavy hair types to create more defined curls while addressing issues such as frizz and dryness.
When picking out a good curl-defining cream, consider your curl pattern, and the condition of your hair. Type 4 hair, for example, is prone to dryness and tends to respond well to formulas containing ingredients like shea butter and coconut oil, which help seal in moisture and reduce frizz.
What shoes to wear with a maxi dress, because the footwear is key
Fashion month is in progress, which means endless inspo.
What shoes to wear with a maxi dress, you ask? We’ve got you.
Wedding season is fast approaching, which means you might be scouring the internet for a good wedding guest dress. A maxi dress is a winning bet, but what shoes to wear with a maxi dress, you ask? The length of the garment is what adds instant formality, even if it’s a boho style cotton dress. (If you’re going to a strictly black tie wedding that may not be the most appropriate, but I’d argue that for a summer’s day, it absolutely is – with the right accessories, and avoiding white of course.) But the key is in the footwear.

The Heartbreaking Love Story: JFK Jr. & Carolyn Bessette Scene Cut From the Wedding Episode
Executive producers Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson open up about episode six of the series, including a scene that was ultimately cut.
Love Story delivered another iconic moment in John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette’s love story this week, thanks to the highly anticipated wedding episode (episode six, which is simply titled “The Wedding”). Interestingly enough, the actual ceremony was the least fascinating part, given that almost everyone remembers that iconic 1996 photo of the pair walking out of the rustic white church in Georgia, with JFK Jr. kissing his new bride’s hand.
Turns out there was plenty of drama leading up to the big day. Details that, unless you’re a Kennedy/Bessette expert, were relatively unknown to the public. Before the wedding, Carolyn had resigned from her job at Calvin Klein, recognizing that her newfound fame was becoming more of a hindrance than a help. And while it was very widely known that Narciso Rodriguez designed Carolyn’s stunning slip wedding dress, the decision by Carolyn to ask her friend over her boss feels more dramatic now than the public ever knew.
How ‘Love Story’ Makes Us Fall for Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s Wedding Dress All Over Again
Archival footage, preserved fabric swatches, and three replicas helped costume designer Rudy Mance recreate the legendary Narciso Rodriguez design.
Early in episode 6 of FX’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Caroline Bessette-Kennedy, the titular CBK confesses something that seems unimaginable to brides around the world. “I never thought about my wedding,” Carolyn, played by Sarah Pidgeon, says with a sigh and a tousle of her blonde hair. “Getting married just never seemed as romantic as being married.”
No one watching can miss the dramatic irony: The bridal industry often cites the couple’s 40-guest wedding at First African Baptist Church in Cumberland Island, Georgia, as one of the romantic ceremonies in modern American history. And Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s custom Narciso Rodriguez wedding dress created an entire class of bridalwear all on its own. “This dress was not a revolutionary move for Carolyn,” fashion journalist Sunita Kumar Nair writes in Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy: A Life in Fashion. “The slip dress was already a firm member in her wardrobe club, but it was her decision for it to be her bridal dress that set her apart.”
‘Love Story’ Recreated Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s Iconic Wedding Dress From a Single Scrap of Fabric
Costume designer Rudy Mance breaks down all the detective work that went into reviving the most famous bridal look of the 1990s.
If you’ve ever contemplated a slip-style wedding dress, you probably have Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy to thank. Since Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette premiered in February, we’ve all, unknowingly or knowingly, been #influenced by the original fashion influencer. It’s like Miranda Priestly says in her cerulean speech: We’re not just pulling pieces at random from a “pile of stuff.” If you have a sudden urge to buy a camel coat, oval sunglasses from Prada, or a headband from C.O. Bigelow, you’re not alone; you’ve just been CBK’ed. When I ordered sheer white opera gloves and Manolos for my own wedding three years ago, I knew what I was doing. I, too, have copied Bessette-Kennedy’s style.
JFK Jr.-Core Has Taken Over Menswear
Thanks to Ryan Murphy’s new series Love Story, the fashion conversation around Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy—an enduring ’90s style icon—has reached an all-time peak. The social media posts offering tips and tricks for replicating her perfect, minimalist-chic wardrobe are endless, and shoppers have been flocking to a certain New York pharmacy to buy the headbands she liked. But CBK is not the only figure on the show whose style is enjoying a resurgence: We are now entering an era of serious John F. Kennedy Jr.-core, too.
A bit slouchy and laissez-faire, Kennedy’s wardrobe revolved around taking ’90s power pieces—a three-piece suit, pleated dress pants, or a standard shirt and tie—and making them feel just a little more dressed-down. We’ve all seen those paparazzi photos of him and CBK out and about in Tribeca: sometimes he’s in a pair of baggy jeans with a fitted sweater vest; at other times a classic white dress shirt with a backwards cap. Ultimately, his style came from not trying to have style—an approach not dissimilar to CBK’s.
How to Eat Like a Local in Paris — a Guide to the Best Restaurants, Culinary-Focused Hotels, and More
Food lovers can curate the perfect visit around the city’s culinary delights.
“It is unquestionably the place in the universe where the finest cuisine is served,” said Grimod de La Reynière of Paris in the 19th century. France’s first food critic — the brain behind the Almanach des Gourmands guidebooks, the precursor to the Michelin Guide — would be just as effusive about the dining scene today, which has swelled to some 18,000 restaurants since the concept’s 18th-century invention on the Palais Royal. Sure, Parisians may be guilty of Gallic pride (just a soupçon), but let’s tell it like it is: Paris is a great place to eat.
From the revelrous royal feasts of the Middle Ages tonouvelle cuisine and modern bistronomy, the French capital’s rich culinary heritage has laid the foundation for today’s chefs to create and innovate. In a nod to Grimod, this guide is for food-loving travelers keen to sink their teeth into the Parisian panoply of delicacies. You’ll find a selection of culinary outings, gourmet souvenirs, and food-centric hotels, stores, and street markets. Curating the restaurants, I’ve chosen both classic and contemporary French establishments with staying power. Bon appétit.
The 25 Essential American Cheeses to Try Right Now
Cheese has come a long way in the U.S. since its production became industrialized in the 1800s, when we began pooling our milk supply to pump out cheap factory-made blocks. It took a brave band of dairy dames in the 1970s and ’80s — fondly known as “the goat ladies” in cheese circles — to kick off a full-blown artisan movement around the country.
In 1983, Mary Keehn founded Cypress Grove in California (and dreamed up its most recognized cheese, Humboldt Fog, in 1993); Allison Hooper cofounded Vermont Creamery in 1984. Both started out with a few goats and began handcrafting cheeses during an era when the word chèvre was not even a whisper, and no one in America could have imagined a goat cheese crumble. When chef Alice Waters first put a baked goat cheese salad on the Chez Panisse menu in the early 1980s (using Laura Chenel chèvre), Velveeta-eating Americans started doing double takes.

Bacon Lovers Swear By These Sheet Pans and Wire Racks for the Crispiest Strips Every Time
You’ll never go back to the stove.
Aside from coffee and eggs, bacon has ruled breakfast menus for ages. When we tested seven methods of cooking bacon, sheet pans emerged as the clear winner. It delivered evenly crisp, flat strips, and lots of them at once. A hot skillet is quick but can yield uneven, chewy bacon; an air fryer is hands-free but can’t fit and evenly cook many strips. So, for crispy, consistent results, opt for an aluminum foil-lined sheet pan in the oven — you’ll be glad you did.
There aren’t many secrets to this bacon-cooking technique, but the equipment can make all the difference. The right pan, like Nordic Ware’s quarter sheet, is deep enough to catch bacon drippings, while fitted wire racks help achieve the ultimate crisp level. Whether you’re cooking off a few strips for a BLT or an entire pound for Sunday brunch, these baking sheets and racks will get the job done.
The Ancient Women Who Ruled Their Kingdoms
Long before modern conversations about gender and power, Nubia offered a unique model
When people think about power in the ancient world, they often picture kings, emperors, and male warriors. Nubia tells a different story.
Along the Nile in what is now Sudan and southern Egypt, women stood at the center of political and spiritual life. Queens ruled alongside kings, acted as religious authorities, and commissioned some of the most striking art of their time. Their images are as commanding and public as any male ruler’s. In Nubia, female authority was visible and celebrated.
Nubia’s long history includes several major periods, but it is during the Meroitic era, from about 270 BCE to 350 CE, that women’s power is most clearly documented. This was a time of prosperity, long-distance trade, and artistic innovation. It was also an age when queens regularly ruled as co-sovereigns and shaped the political and cultural life of the kingdom.

Can You Really Clean With Ketchup? Here’s the Science Behind the Trend
Apparently, it’s not just for fries.
If you were to come across a cleaning video of someone smearing ketchup onto a dull copper pan, you’d probably stop swiping. According to the social media trend, ketchup can help clean certain metals, especially copper. The question is, “Does it work?” And, if so, why? Below, learn about the science behind the trend, the safest way to try it, and when you’re better off using something outside of the condiment aisle.
This Italian City Is the Birthplace of Lasagna—and It’s Home to the World’s Longest Covered Walkway
Here’s where to eat, stay, and explore in Bologna, Italy.
Located about 30 minutes from Florence by high-speed train, Bologna is an equally enticing destination to visit on a trip to Italy. With a remarkable food history dating back to the Middle Ages, it’s the place to thank for some of the world’s most beloved dishes, including lasagne alla bolognese, tortellini, and ragù.
The northern Italian city is also home to the oldest university in the Western world, and it maintains a music scene so rich that it was designated a UNESCO City of Creative Music. I recently visited and was impressed by its seamless blend of old and new: A lively college community gathered in a pop music-fueled bar just steps from a towering sixth-century Gothic basilica. Food vendors tempted shoppers with crystalline slices of Parmigiano and crates adorned with tiny tortellini shells. Nearby, large groups sat around communal tables enjoying an aperitivo of sparkling spritzes.
