One Battle After Another star Teyana Taylor came to the Oscars serving face and body for days. That’s no surprise, considering how much “face + body” comprises her entire style philosophy. Even so, we found her choice of dress mildly unexpected.

Of all the things we could have predicted she might wear on Oscar night, a big hairy skirt never entered our minds. We remain committed to our take that the fashion world needs to make a hard break from the bird world and stop putting feathers on everything. We like that the dress has a wild pattern, which is something you don’t see all that often at the Oscars. The design is declarative and head-turning that’s also somewhat forceful in comparison to most Oscar gowns. We like the subtle sheerness of the bodice and the necklace is well chosen. As always, her face is serving. But we just can’t get behind that hairy-ass (literally) skirt. She can make anything look good, but that doesn’t make it a good dress.
