Michelle Pfeiffer came to The Late Show to talk about her new series Madison and also to serve up some chic witchy style.

Once again, we are forced dial back our complaints about people wearing black on talk shows. In our defense, Colbert has some of the better lighting on late night, but also, we like how dramatic a look this is for her, while still coming off fairly effortless. We feel like she’s going through a bit of a style shift on par with the one Demi Moore made a year or two ago. We’ve always said that major stars who hit their stardom in the late 1900s, before the age of stylists and luxury brand ambassadorships (not to mention bitchy fashion bloggers such as we), usually show a timidity or unwillingness to over-commit when it comes to promotional style.. George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis, Winona Ryder, Demi, and Michelle, for example. None of them are bad about the red carpet, but until Demi started switching things up, they’ve all had a very profesh, get-the-job-done approach to this aspect of modern stardom. What we like about this look is that has real personality and expressiveness to it. It’s not just “Let’s rely on me being Michelle Pfeiffer,” there’s a lovely darkness to it that she rarely indulges. Love the boots. The diamond necklace is a fun touch to remind you she’s a legend.
