UN Women Goodwill Ambassador Anne Hathaway made history yesterday as the first woman to give a speech at the UN on International Women’s Day while wearing a pair of satin gauchos.
We haven’t checked the accuracy of that opening statement but we trust it’s pretty truthy. Call us crazy, but something about this whole outfit really works for us. The color is rich, but subdued. The jacket is fairly well-tailored (we presume the closure gaps are deliberate) and we are surprised to admit that the blouse works with it. The pants – which are more of a gaucho/harem hybrid – honestly don’t bother us, partially because she managed to keep them almost completely wrinkle-free. It’s a look that’s probably a little showy for the UN but just subdued enough to lend her the seriousness the moment requires. It works for us.
