PinPatatino Restaurant – Edinburgh, Scotland

It’s never good news when we are tasked with informing you that it is TUESDAY once again, but we can at least add a little sugar to the moment by also announcing that we have a whole bunch of things to distract you today, including two more ologies and a podcast. So settle into today’s whimsically adorable LOunge, order something in a pastel, and prepare to be irresponsible for the duration.

Stay Classy
Mummy loved Andrew, and what Mummy loved, Mummy protected. By 1984, it seemed he’d got the basic point about dropping the floozies and finding the sort of woman who would ‘understand him’. Enter ‘Chatterbox One’, the codename given to Sarah Ferguson by air traffic controllers when she was learning to fly, a woman in happy possession of two O-levels who exuded jolliness and scads of suitability. (Her father was Prince Charles’s polo manager and it was Diana who set her up with the fourth-in-line.) After a few country weekends and acres of japes, Ferguson was installed as the Duchess of York.

Gucci, glitter and gold: Sir Elton John reveals the stories behind some of his most sparkling fashion moments
As he debuts a new documentary focusing on his life in gold, the hit-making megastar talks to Tatler’s style editor all about the ensembles that shone the brightest throughout his incredible career

You could say that Sir Elton John, the superstar, the style icon, the living legend, lives a life surrounded by gold. Not only in the form of the countless awards – 26 gold albums, 43 platinum, BRITs, AMAs, Ivor Novellos… and the coveted EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) – but in the decades-worth of gilded, glittering costumes that have inspired generations of fashion heroes who have since followed down his platform boot-trodden path, worn on stage across 80 different countries in as many as over 4,000 performances. Elton John is the rocket man, and when it comes to fashion, this rocket is always shining celestially in outré-chic.

The Best Oscar Dresses of All Time: A History of Fashion at the Academy Awards
The Academy Awards showcase film—and fashion. See some of the most thrilling looks of all time, including the best Oscar dresses.

In the nearly 100 years that the Academy Awards have been in existence, the ceremony has become synonymous not just with film but fashion. Oscar dresses dominate the conversation the night of the festivities and for days after. They are praised when they are simply gorgeous and criticized when they miss the mark. Bold choices are applauded or mocked—or mocked at the time and then applauded later. (Looking at you, Björk.)
The anointing of the Oscars as a major event for clothes evolved over time as the ceremony went from being essentially a dinner party to a nationally televised event. In the early days, stars would rely on the studios to dress them, sometimes even working with the people who made their costumes on their films. Now the nominees and other attendees work with armies of stylists who connect them to high profile designers that are eager to have their work seen on as big of a stage as the Oscars red carpet.

The Secret to Getting Dressed Faster? Start With Your Signature Colours
Whether you’re drawn to brights or something more neutrally-inclined, deciding on a colour scheme could make things so much easier

The world has fallen, yet again, for Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, whose mythically good style has been imitated with such panache in Love Story, Ryan Murphy’s retelling of perhaps the most glamorised marriage in 20th century America, that her outfits are being referenced, and recreated, like never before. Consistency is one reason her wardrobe is not just iconic but something of a touchstone when it comes to the ’90s. CBK wore a lot of neutrals, largely sticking to black, white, beige and denim. This is why her name is so often associated with minimalism and the concept of a capsule wardrobe, but it’s also why her outfits were so good so much of the time. She found her signature colours—as well as cuts—and wore them religiously.

21 strawberry nail designs that are super cute for your spring manicure
Already looking forward to summer? Well, who isn’t! But if you’re already dreaming of hot days filled with sweet fruit, then strawberry nail designs might be for you.
For the uninitiated, the trend is a spin-off of the overarching “strawberry girl” aesthetic that’s currently going stratospheric with over 17 million views on TikTok, thanks, in part, to a little help from Hailey Bieber, who took to Instagram to declare this season “strawberry girl summer”. It’s fruity, juicy, adorable and exactly the reset we need to kick off the incoming warmer weather.

How to style a waistcoat like the fashion girlies
Not long ago, you might have thought of the waistcoat as merely part of a three piece suit, worn for formal occasions or by those with a particular taste for the art of tailoring. Or perhaps it reminds you of the emos of the ’00s. Personally, it reminds me of a high school music teacher who had a penchant for purple waistcoats.
But in recent years, waistcoats have become a staple for it girls. No longer just a part of a suit, the garment has become a star in its own right. It’s become more and more common to ditch the shirt underneath and wear the waistcoat like you might a corset or vest. It’s a look which is exemplified by the queen of online indie sleaze nostalgia, Kate Moss – particularly when she was dating Libertines frontman Pete Doherty from 2005 to 2007.

How to style a denim jacket for spring like a fashion pro
Everyone’s favourite jean jacket staple is back for another round.

Has there ever been a piece that mastered the art of reinvention like this one? A denim jacket (or a jean jacket) is one of those rare wardrobe staples that never fully disappears from the trend cycle — it just evolves with time.
Put another way, the essence of denim outerwear remains the same at its core, but it’s how we wear it that shifts with every season. This spring, for example, styling a denim jacket goes beyond its usual role as a grab-and-go layering piece into something more intentional and elevated.

Lily James Says Feeling Confident Comes From ‘Knowing How To Dress Your Body’
The actor sat front row at the Zimmermann AW26 show during Paris Fashion Week

Lily James is on cloud nine, having just spent ‘a glorious weekend in Paris with some girlfriends’. The sun is shining in the French capital, and she’s rounded off her trip with a spot of fashion, sitting front row at the Zimmermann show. ‘I’m just soaking it all in,’ she tells me afterwards. ‘This has been such a special way to finish my Parisian getaway, with this beautiful show.’ Following the catwalk finale, James slipped backstage to greet creative director Nicky Zimmermann, who tells me that the actor is someone who she believes embodies the spirit of her brand ‘so effortlessly’.
‘I’ve always loved the way she wears clothes – she brings a sense of ease and authenticity to everything,’ she adds. ‘Nothing feels forced with her, which is exactly how we want our pieces to feel on the woman wearing them.’

Fascinated by ‘Love Story’? Add These 11 Gripping Carolyn Bessette And JFK Jr. Books To Your List
JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette met in 1992, while she was working as a publicist for Calvin Klein, though the two didn’t officially begin dating until 1994, just before John launched his political magazine, George. By 1996, they were married and quickly became the focus of much tabloid fodder, until their untimely deaths in July 1999, when their plane, piloted by John, went down off of Martha’s Vineyard en route to a Kennedy family wedding.
If you’re looking for a deeper dive into the couple’s story as you await the next episode of Love Story, we’ve curated this JFK Jr. and CBK-inspired reading list. It’s packed with options, from a coffee table book studying Carolyn’s timeless style to memoirs by their close friends — and even a forthcoming analysis of the parallels between the Kennedy dynasty and the British royal family.

Are Books the New Birkins?
Books are now status symbols—and brands like Dior and Coach are cashing in.

Are books the It accessories of 2026?
You can’t wear them (yet), but you can carry them, and two brands have already turned the classics into arm candy. The $3,600 Dior Book Tote comes in styles featuring Madame Bovary, Dracula, Les Fleurs du Mal, Bonjour Tristesse, and Les Liasons Dangereuses. Taking it a step further, Coach is now making $95 charms that are basically just small (readable!) books on key rings and will be available to the public next month. In her new Calvin Klein campaign, Dakota Johnson poses with a billiards stick…and a novel. Last year Prada commissioned a short story collection from Ottessa Moshfegh.

The Alaïa Dress of Clueless Fame Is So Back
“You don’t understand. This is an Alaïa!”

In terms of blonde fashion icons of the 1990s, we need a teeny-tiny break from Carolyn Bessette, no offense. Cher Horowitz, please stand up. The iconic Alaïa dress from Clueless, which Cher (Alicia Silverstone) wears to the party in the Valley before getting mugged at gunpoint and calling her ex-stepbrother (it’s an eventful night), just made its way down the runway again.

How Queen Elizabeth Sent Secret Signals to Her Staff With Her Bag, Ring, and Makeup
Her Majesty used subtle codes to politely exit conversations.

While she fraternized with celebrities, aristocrats, and heads of state, the monarch would make subtle adjustments to her signature arm candy indicating she was done with the conversation. That’s according to royal historian Hugo Vickers, who spilled on Elizabeth’s secret messages in a 2011 People interview.
“It would be very worrying if you were talking to the Queen and saw the handbag move from one hand to the other,” he noted. Yet she would try to be tactful so her conversation partner wasn’t offended. “It would be done very nicely,” Vickers said. “Someone would come along and say, ‘Sir, the Archbishop of Canterbury would very much like to meet you,’” ushering you away from Elizabeth.

The JFK Jr. Lookalike Contest Was Rife with Hunks in Hats
There were a few Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy doppelgangers in the mix, too.

At the John F. Kennedy Jr. Lookalike contest in New York City’s Washington Square Park, I saw every John John archetype imaginable. Standing next to the park’s famous arch, a sporty JFK Jr. in short shorts and New Balance sneakers posed for a photo. On the grass, a quirky vest-wearing doppelganger mugged in a hat and drawn-on chest hair for dramatic effect. The contest winner—a very tall lookalike in roller skates—basked in attention from park-going singles and rubberneckers just outside the North entrance.
Born from a few viral flyers posted around town, the competition challenged the hunks of Manhattan to ask not what their city could do for them, but what they could do for their city. The answer, of course, was to put on their best ’90s ‘fit and head to the Greenwich Village turf of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy wannabes on March 8 to win the honor of…looking the most like our favorite political nepo baby, I guess.

Ahead of the 2026 Oscars, Take a Look Back at (Almost) Every Best Actress Winner’s Dress
At long last, awards season will draw to a close on Sunday with the 2026 Oscars.

While we haven’t been wanting for fashion moments (case in point: Teyana Taylor in a bejeweled Schiaparelli whale tail on the 2026 Golden Globes red carpet), we’re expecting a no-holds-barred Oscars carpet. The grand finale of the season—and the most venerated acting honor—calls for high glamour. So what can we expect come Oscars night from our leading ladies? Dresses of yore may hold the key.
The Oscars have grown into a far more formal occasion since its inception. In 1928, Janet Gaynor accepted the very first Academy Award for best actress in a long-sleeve and skirt with a silk scarf draped over her shoulders. But in more recent Academy Awards history, red carpet dressing has become an increasingly competitive arena with luxury houses staking early claims on the leading ladies in the hopes that their dresses become canonized in cinema history. After all, some of the most iconic gowns of all time hail from Oscars night, be it Gwyneth Paltrow’s bubblegum pink Ralph Lauren dress, Cher’s Bob Mackie showgirl number, or Halle Berry’s floral Elie Saab.

17 Recipes That Make Bitter Sweet
Bite into the most sophisticated taste on your palate with dishes where chicory, broccoli rabe, dandelion greens, grapefruit, and dark chocolate shine.

“In the kitchen, eschewing bitter is like cooking without salt, or eating without looking,” writes chef and writer Jennifer McLagan in her book Bitter: A Taste of the World’s Most Dangerous Flavor. “Without bitterness we lose a way to balance sweetness, and by rejecting it we limit our range of flavors. Food without bitterness lacks depth and complexity.”
Coffee, chocolate, citrus, greens — not to mention liqueurs — are often defined by their bitterness. It’s what makes them sophisticated, complex, worth savoring. Bitter is delightful. Bitter makes sweet. Here we celebrate recipes that let those ingredients shine: salads, soups, pastas, snacks, sides, and even desserts. If you’ve ever liked your coffee black or your amaro after dinner, these are the recipes to cook next.

What Is Itameshi? The Japanese Spin on Italian Food You Need to Try
A wave of restaurant openings across the country suggests this culinary mashup is resonating with chefs and diners alike.

Itameshi is a term that refers to Japan’s fusion with Italian cuisine (“Ita” is taken from “Italia,” while “meshi” means “meal”). It’s embodied through dishes like F&W 2016 Best New Chef Brad Kilgore’s dashi-brined and breaded chicken breast topped with caper aioli, mozzarella, and chili crisp that’s served at his OISE Ristorante in Fort Myers, Florida. Kilgore calls it “Okinawan chicken parm,” and he serves it garnished with miniature Japanese and Italian flags.
Introduced in the 1920s, itameshi has seen renewed interest in recent years. It’s made waves in Tokyo, with ripples that have reached stateside.
Itameshi is not new in the U.S. Chef Christine Lau of New York City’s Kimika, which opened in 2020, helped popularize dishes like uni spaghetti, for example. But a wave of openings across the country suggests this fusion is again resonating with chefs and diners alike.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is reviving ‘Conan the Barbarian’ with ‘Mission: Impossible’ filmmaker
Christopher McQuarrie is set to write and direct “King Conan.”

Former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is ready to be king…Conan.
Almost 45 years after starred in Conan the Barbarian, Schwarzenegger is officially picking up the sword again for King Conan, the upcoming third installment in the franchise, EW has confirmed. Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) is set to write and direct the film for 20th Century Studios.
McQuarrie has spent the last decade as Tom Cruise’s partner-in-crime on the previous four Mission: Impossible movies, and King Conan will be his first non-Mission directorial effort since 2012’s Jack Reacher.

Heated Rivalry stars Hudson Williams and Francois Arnaud call out hateful comments: ‘Don’t call yourself a fan’
Williams, Arnaud, and their costars have been publicly navigating an increasingly rowdy fanbase as the queer hockey series goes increasingly viral.

Hudson Williams, François Arnaud, and more stars of Heated Rivalry are wading into the most toxic corners of the series’ ever-widening fandom to plea for peace.
Williams and Arnaud shared an identical graphic to their respective Instagram Stories on Monday that suggested their encounters with the negative side of fan posting have become unbearable.
“Don’t call yourself a fan if you share racist/ homophobic/biphobic/misogynistic/ageist/ ableist/parasocial/bigoted comments of any kind,” the graphic read. “None of us need your hateful ‘love.”

Why Freshly Washed Clothes Can Smell Bad—and How to Fix It
A few simple tweaks can keep every load smelling clean and fresh.

Taking a whiff of freshly washed laundry only to find it smelling more sour than clean is a uniquely unpleasant experience—but not an entirely uncommon one. Even when you follow your usual laundry care routine, a stubborn musty scent can linger, and the culprit isn’t always one single issue.
“Laundry smells are usually caused by buildup, whether it’s from detergent, softener, or mildew in the washer,” explains Stephanie Phillips, owner of Phillips Commercial and Residential Cleaning in Nashville, TN. “Once you address where that buildup comes from, the fix is usually quick and simple.”
Understanding what’s behind the odor is the first step toward ridding it from fabrics for good—and a few simple tweaks can keep every load smelling clean and fresh.

How to Clean Reusable Coffee Cup Lids—and Why You Should Never Skip This Step
Here’s where buildup likes to hide.

While a reusable coffee cup itself is fairly easy to clean, the lid can be a different story. Skip this crucial step and you may notice lingering odors, old coffee stains, or even mold growth. For a safer sip, be sure that you’re not overlooking that lid.
We chatted with two cleaning experts who shared how your coffee cup’s lid can quickly become a breeding ground for bacteria. Plus, their go-to cleaning routine to keep buildup at bay.

The Hotel Amenities Most Travelers Forget to Ask For—But Should Request During Their Stay
From phone chargers to record players, these items could make all the difference to your visit.

Travelers often have to make tough choices about what to bring on a trip and what to leave at home. And if you’re traveling light, airline carry-on bag policies make it even tougher. Thankfully, hotels have noticed and usually stock complimentary amenities that most guests would never think to request.
“We often encounter guests who either forget or choose to leave behind certain amenities that just don’t make the cut,” said Joon Chang, a hotel manager who worked at Kimpton George Hotel in Washington, D.C., which offers a Forgot It? We Got It program. “Ultimately, we want guests to feel their best while staying with us, and if our amenities can free up a bit of suitcase space for souvenirs and unforgettable memories instead, that’s even better.”

Portugal’s Best-kept Coastal Secret Has 70 Miles of Cliffs, Surf Beaches, and Hard-to-Book Boutique Hotels
On the Costa Vicentina, a Lisbon resident finds cliffside hikes, surf beaches, and stylish new boutique hotels far from the Algarve crowds.

The Algarve, Portugal’s southernmost region, is known for its crowded beaches, golf courses, and the type of family-friendly resorts where you’re more likely to find a burger than grilled sardines. But head north, up the Atlantic coast. There you’ll find one of Europe’s last wild coastlines—a rugged landscape of pristine shores and dramatic cliffs called the Costa Vicentina.
Spanning nearly 70 miles, the area is part of the greater Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, a sprawling reserve created by the Portuguese government in 1988 to safeguard the area’s natural landscape and biodiversity. Thanks to strict zoning rules, the vast, beautiful area remains largely undeveloped, apart from the odd farmhouse and old cottage. And until recently, it attracted few visitors—mostly vacationers from Lisbon and surfers who came for its challenging breaks and chill vibe.
