The stars came out to the American Black Film Festival where Angela Bassett received the Excellence in the Arts Award, as she should. Looks were served, as expected. We gave Wunmi Mosaku a spotlight post but it’s time for the rest to come in for assessment. Let’s go.
Angela Bassett in Falguni Shane Peacock

Gorgeous and regal. The embellishments could do with a little editing and she doesn’t need whatever that sash is, but she looks great.
Damson Idris

It’s a beautifully fitted tux and we’ve come around on brown tuxedos, but we don’t think this shade is the right one for him. He needs more of a mahogany brown than a cinnamon, we think.
Dwayne Johnson

He’ll always be Mr. Tits Out, but he makes it look relatively chic. Love the brooch.
Jennifer Hudson in Jean-Louis Sabaji

We’re so tired of seeing the same bodice over and over again. We love the sparkle, but the textile looks flimsy.
Keke Palmer

It’s got a bit of that ’90s Calvin Klein vibe to it and we have to admit, the style looks great on her. It’s a shame that the bust is too tight because this is chic. Love the jewelry but we’re not sure the collar works with that neckline.
Michael Jai White

Love the jacket, hate the footwear. If there’s an orthopedic issue, at least wear the all-black versions. Those white soles look terrible here.
Naturi Naughton

Cute, but too small on her. Needs a pendant. Love the bag.
Tabitha Brown

Love the suit and the bag but we wouldn’t have recommended black lace for the top. There’s enough going on in terms of pattern and texture.
Tika Sumpter

It’s a pretty color and it drapes well, but that bodice looks too bulky to us.
Vivica A. Fox

The color looks good on her and we like the boldness of the jewelry since the design is a little basic. It needs to be a size larger and have only one neckline, however.
