Hamnet star Jessie Buckley has been trying to navigate awards season in a way that allows her own quirky preferences to shine through while she sports some fairly mainstream fashion. The results haven’t always been great, but it’s been interesting watching her team try to figure it out. Unfortunately…

… they seem to have lost the plot. We’re not loving this attempt, which just looks like a slightly fucked-up version of a standard Renee Zellweger dress. It doesn’t suit her and the textile is uncharacteristically mumsy. We always get bitchy about asymmetry in fashion, as if there were something wrong with the idea, but in truth, our problem with it always comes down to whether or not it serves the body wearing it. A well-deployed asymmetrical element can draw the eye or make a piece feel more dramatic and unusual, but a poorly conceived one just winds up distorting the body. Her whole left side looks like it’s melting. And the shoes clash with it. We’re happy for your win, Jessie, but let’s forget this dress ever happened.
