Princess Cathy put on a pretty plaid and headed to the National Curling Academy in Stirling as part of the Prince and Princess of Wales’ visit to Stirling and Falkirk in Scotland. That’s it. That’s the post.

Not exactly breaking news, we realize, but as royal fashion watchers, it’s always worth it to take a minute and look whatever outerwear Catherine, who we once dubbed “the Cinderella of coats,” is sporting. Her style fortunes may rise and fall over the years, but the lady has a killer outerwear game and she always has. It’s always nice to see her in a print and these colors look lovely on her. Using our magical fashion editing wand, we’d turn those boots aubergine or navy blue, since she loves matchiness. Aside from that, no other edits. The royal tresses are relatively tame for his one. Probably too cold for curls. Once inside, she ditched the coat and Sporty Cathy came flying out.

We’ll be blunt: we think this whole outfit is surprisingly dowdy, but the heaviness of it indicates that she’s dressing for the weather and the… unfancy-ness (to coin a term) is probably because she knew she’d be getting down on the floor with her girls to do a little sport. The vest is legitimately cute, though — in an endearingly awkward sort of way. As we said, we can’t say this is a stylish look at all, but it’s charming and appropriate — which are the key words in describing what her job entails: charming the public while being deathlessly appropriate at all times. She really is very good at it; better than just about anyone else, in fact.
