It’s that time of year when the entertainment industry decides to throw one party after another in honor of the women it mostly marginalizes the other 11 months of the year. Huzzah! Anyway, The Hollywood Reporter threw its annual Women in Entertainment gala and looks were served by everyone on the way in.
Chase Infiniti in Proenza Schouler

This looks great on her, but we’d like it more if it wasn’t covering so much of her arm. We also think boots are wrong for it.
Dakota Johnson in Khaite

It’s a bit of a flex on her part, because it’s the most basic of basic black dresses but she still looks great in it. We don’t think aggressive styling would have done anything for it. It turns out, she’s really well suited to the plain stuff.
Gwyneth Paltrow

It’s just okay. A little baptismal in tone. We’d like it a lot more if the slit were on the side.
Jennifer Lopez in Harith Hashim

She looks gorgeous in this but that hem length is terrible.
Kerry Washington in Simkhai

Well, that answers that question. Turns out you can’t make wrinkled denim look chic. It doesn’t help that it’s design to look like all of her undergarments are trying to escape.
Mamie Gummer

If you’re going to sport a clean face and slightly messy hair, we don’t know why you’d pick a red satin dress. She looks like she’s heading to the makeup chair. It’s also kind of an ugly and sad-looking dress, as most all-satin dresses tend to be after a single car ride.
Mckenna Grace in Dôen,

We’re surprised to see her in something so precious and juvenile. Ingenues on the verge of adulthood tend to dress much older than their age rather than much younger. When Millie Bobby Brown was her age, she was dressing like a 50-year-old on a comeback tour. We can’t get mad at this. She looks very cute. She just doesn’t look anything like any 19-year-olds we know.
Olivia Munn in Lanvin

Love the drape and the shape, but the sheer skirt just looks flimsy under all that volume. We’re really stuck in a hideous shoe period, aren’t we?
Regina Hall in Brunello Cucinelli

The massage room is ready, Regina. You can go on in.
Rhea Seehorn

It’s a great suit, but there’s no point in wearing it unbuttoned. It just completely loses the shape. Also, we would not have chosen pink for the shirt.
