Red Carpet Rundown: WICKED: FOR GOOD New York Premiere

The stars of Wicked: For Good got themselves all gussied up in knockoff character costumes for the New York premiere. Honestly, covering any Wicked promo event is like covering the Met Gala. Did they stick to the theme? How does this fit with the theme? Is this the correct way to interpret the theme? Feh. ARE THE CLOTHES GOOD? That’s all that should matter. Let’s tell them.

Well, at least she’s having fun with it. We realize that the leather (?) part is the only thing that gives this witchy gown any interest and that if you took it away it might literally become an Elphaba costume, but it’s a terrible design element. Love the shades, though.

It’s very pretty and overwhelmingly Audrey in tone. We don’t know if she’s truly gunning for a biopic, but we kinda hope she isn’t because she’ll be stuck in this style for the next five years at least and it’s already gotten stale for her. The nose makeup is ridiculous and makes her look like an urchin in a Rankin Bass Christmas special.

What was the point of this, Jonathan? You’ve reduced yourself to a face and hands. It’s a very nice face, but the outfit is leaving you a void.

Colman Domingo in Dolce & Gabbana

Sigh. Even you, Colman? In case the coat didn’t give it away, he’s voicing the Cowardly Lion. We suppose we should be grateful that he’s not dressed in an actual lion mane.

It’s a gorgeous design and color for her. We love that Louboutin supplied her with her own pair of silver shoes, although the skirt design obscures them a little. Can’t say we’re loving the ribbon choker, which always looks a little tacky to us.

Meh. We still think he dresses too juvenile and we don’t like the costumey implications of all the gray and silver he’s been wearing on this tour.

This is insane and we love not only that she’s having so much fun with her fashion at the moment, but that she’s quite clearly yanking the spotlight away from her somewhat attention-seeking co-stars. The wig is very cute and it really makes the look.

He’s the only one who receives dispensation from us for dressing in character, partially because it’s so easy to interpret the look in ways that don’t feel costumey and partially because he’s been dressing like the Wizard for at least two decades now. Love the coat. Unfortunately, the shirt clashes.
