We knew that Pillion star Alexander Skarsgard was likely to do a little cheeky queerbaiting on the red carpet, given both his predilection for goofy fits and the film’s queer kink storyline. What we did not expect was to see him dressed up like the ultimate in 1955 trade.

For the straights: “trade” refers to men who embody a traditional sort of tough-guy masculinity and in the 1950s, it was largely defined by this exact look, which was immortalized in a thousand Tom of Finland comics. It also had a resurgence in the ’80s in San Francisco as the “clone” look. Anyway, this is a little on the gimmicky side for promotional fashion, but it’s more tone-dressing than theme-dressing (since no one in the film dresses like this). It does come off a little costumey, but he looks cute and that’s mostly what matters here.
