The stars got themselves very gussied up, as they should, and headed out to the Business of Fashion BoF 500 Gala, where they sucked in their cheeks and posed to beat the band. Let’s judge these would-be fashionistas.
Charli XCX
This kind of bridal punk melange suits her well without lapsing into “broken-down doll” style tropes. Our only quibble is with the too-conventional show choice. We realize boots would have been a cliche, but the look definitely needed a little more edge in the styling.
Coco Rocha in Stéphane Rolland Couture
It’s gorgeous, but we suspect it only looks good in a specific pose.
Colman Domingo in Valentino
The King.
Demi Lovato
We can’t recall the last time we’ve seen a celebrity work so hard to make herself as generic as possible. She’s nearly unrecognizable, and all so that she can look like a Kardashian circa 2017.
FKA Twigs in Luis De Javier
Corset-style bodices are a huge cliche at this point, and this is wildly overdesigned, but it does suit her very well. Get rid of the fringe and we can accept it.
Heidi Klum and Leni Klum (in Stéphane Rolland)
Leni’s already got a modeling career under way, but we always think her mom does her a disservice when she poses next to her, because one of them has the stature of a model and the other one just… doesn’t. She also does her a disservice by showing up in clown fashion like this. Leni’s dress is boring, but she must have figured she couldn’t compete with mommy.
Ice Spice in Stella McCartney
This is really cute and we love how it coordinates with her hair.
Jameela Jamil in Harris Reed
Bags o’ boobs. The blue textile is stunning, but the design is silly.
Kim Kardashian in Courrèges
It’s an interesting and striking design that looks pretty good on her but also looks like a bathing suit with a shower curtain tacked onto it.
Laura Harrier
Too boring for words.
Rita Ora in Elie Saab
The dress is great, but the hair and makeup look terrible. The no-eyebrow trend needs to die soon. Almost no one looks good with it.
