Part ONE is here! Get into this!

Charli XCX in Saint Laurent

The bust is just plain dumb. Designers really need to get the hell over their obsession with lace. There are only so many ways you can make it edgy. Anyway, the skirt’s nice, if a little trashbaggy.

Dakota Fanning in Giorgio Armani

Lovely to see her in a print. We’d have liked a better lining match. Not super-crazy about the width and placement of the straps. Still, it’s pretty on her.

Diane Lane in Sportmax

It’s elegant, but perhaps a little stale.

Elle Fanning in Balenciaga

Honestly, we love when she gets her weird on. We’re not a hundred percent in love with this. It worked better when Sarah Paulson wore a somewhat similar Bottega Veneta, but she’s got more experience working weird.

Emma Chamberlain in Giorgio Armani

That dusty overlay adds something interesting to what would have been a standard gold metallic gown. We just wish the seams weren’t so prominent.

Gabrielle Union (in Archival Hervé Léger) and Dwyane Wade

Pure stunning. No notes for either of them.

Jennifer Hudson in Sergio Hudson

Love all those rich greens working together. What a gorgeous look on her. The babyheads are babyheading.

Joey King in Carolina Herrera

It’s a sharp and sexy design, but the problem with the overuse of sheer panels in a gown is that it becomes very pose-specific. You can’t move around in this too much in front of cameras or you look all wrinkly. Love the earrings.

June Squibb in Johnny Was

Attagirl. As we’ve said before, advanced senior style should be about finding the easiest and most comfortable route to looking stylish and photogenic. The floral embellishments make the look.

Kate Hudson in Stella McCartney

We’re not loving that pale yellow, but the design is gorgeous on her.

Kristen Wiig in Chanel
Pin

What an odd look. A quarter-zip top over a wildly overdesigned skirt, which sits too low on her. The jewelry’s interesting at least.

Milly Alcock in Harris Reed

The hood and the stripe make it look way too much like activewear and the sheerness just makes it look flimsy and poorly constructed.

Monica Barbaro in Dior
Pin

Tiers, bows and fake flowers. It’s like the House of Dior hates us.

Naomi Watts in Balenciaga
Pin

It just looks silly. And the color is too bathroomy. If you cut off everything from the feathers down, it would be a cute little shift but too casual for the event.

Penélope Cruz in Chanel
Pin

It’s fine. Pretty, but also pretty forgettable.

Rebecca Hall in Thom Browne
Pin

It’s got seams, so this wasn’t painted on her, although they did a fantastic job of making it look like it was. It’s arresting and head-turning and she really stands out here. She’s another one who does best when she leans into the odd. It’s a gorgeous piece and we assume that the design is based on her own body. No, it didn’t need jewelry.

Renate Reinsve in Louis Vuitton

LOVE this. It’s got this glamorous intellectual vibe that seems just right for her. The necklace doesn’t work with the neckline. In this case, she shouldn’t have one at all, we think. There’s a plainness to the design that doesn’t call for a lot of jewelry, especially since it’s already so sparkly.

Zoe Saldaña in Saint Laurent

She looks great and she knows it. Just a simple, gorgeous design. The styling is just right.
