Prince William and Princess Catherine had an audience with the Archbishop of Canterbury Dame Sarah Mullally in the Archbishop’s study at Lambeth Palace yesterday. Because William wore a suit and leather shoes, we can surmise that they are on their best style behavior for the occasion. No suede bucks and chinos for this meeting. As for Cathy…

It’s extremely restrained, professional and as always, deathlessly appropriate for the occasion. It’s gotta be weird meeting the person who’s going to crown you and probably officiate your children’s weddings. Said without any bitchery: we’re a little surprised Kate didn’t wear a cross. She’s clearly in a brown mode at the moment, because her last few engagements were either all brown or in unusually muted colors for her. It means nothing. We say that with some confidence because we’ve been covering her style for so long and there’s a strong temptation to look at every choice as having some larger meaning. Girlfriend’s got some sweet brown fits and she feels like cycling through them, is all. The tone-on-tone is interesting because the dress is more of a yellow brown and the coat is more of a purple brown and we go back and forth on whether we like how well they coordinate with each other.
