The ladies are here to serve and to slay. Tyler Perry’s Straw stars Teyana Taylor, Sherri Shepherd and Taraji P. Henson arrived at the New York screening ready to pose.
We like how distinct each of them look. There’s no real sense of coordination here, but there doesn’t have to be because they dressed at the same level. Most of the time, when we ding castmembers for not coordinating, it doesn’t mean their outfits have to match, but they should all be exhibiting roughly the same level of effort and formality.
Teyana Taylor in Schiaparelli
It’s Schiaparelli, which means it would be wild on any other wearer, but it’s probably one of the most conventional looks we’ve ever seen her wear. Can’t say we’re in love with all of that black velvet, but the accessories are fabulous.
Sherri Shepherd
This is a great suit and we love the sparkly pinstripe, but the fit on that jacket is so odd. We fear that years of too-tight skinny suits have left people without an understanding of how these things are supposed to fit when they’re tailored correctly. That wide gape and uneven hem on the jacket look terrible.
Taraji P. Henson in Stéphane Rolland Couture
The drape and the color are gorgeous on her. Hair, jewelry and makeup are all gorgeous (wildly overlined lip aside). The only part we have an issue with is that weird bit at the bottom. If you’re gonna do a slit to the hip, just own it. Whatever that is down below is just adding a trip hazard that’s not needed.
