As far as we’re concerned, any look for the Met Gala should be about two things: a dramatic sense of theatricality that sets the look apart from standard red carpet fare, and an haute couture level of craftsmanship that makes the garment a one-of-a-kind art piece. Why are we telling you this now? Because Lisa forgot her pants and we don’t care.
Putting aside the lack of a bottom, it might interest you to know that the lace jacket is woven with portraits by artist Henry Taylor, who painted LV lead designer Pharrell for the cover of Vogue and hand embellished with crystals. Much like Pharrell’s own outfit for the night, the beauty of the piece requires you to get up very close to it, which means the impact and meaning behind it tends to be lost in any photographs. But as we noted with the designer’s own pearl-encrusted jacket, ultimately, the point is the press that a garment like this generates. Trust that an insane number of her fans know all about the design and craftsmanship that went into this piece. Anyway, we think she looks stunningly gorgeous. Would a skirt have improved this for us? Honestly? Probably not. The aggressive LV branding bugs, though.
