Cynthia Erivo Felt “Totally Insane” Playing Multiple Roles on Poker Face
The Wicked star brings five different characters to life in the season premiere of Rian Johnson’s mystery series: “I would get to the end of the day and not even really even know my own name.”
In Wicked, Cynthia Erivo was not that girl—but on Poker Face, she is, five times over. The second-season premiere of Rian Johnson’s hit crime-comedy series asks Elphaba to put down the broomstick and pick up a hammer to play five different roles opposite Natasha Lyonne’s bullshit-sniffing Charlie Cale. In an exclusive clip, you can see Erivo and Lyonne go toe-to-toe in Poker Face, which returns to Peacock May 8.
After spending 18 months playing one green girl, Erivo was more than ready for the challenge of playing five sisters at the same time. “I knew that my head would be split into many different spaces, but I was like, ‘Well, if not now, then when?’” the Oscar nominee says. “I’m always open to trying things that I haven’t done before, and I wanted to do this. I wanted to figure out what it would be like to compartmentalize and play different characters all at once, to challenge myself to see if it was possible.”
Craving a holiday? Transport yourself across the globe with these 7 escapist perfumes
Visit Morocco and Australia through scent
Our sense of smell gets its immense power by virtue of being the only one directly connected to our brains. This goes some way to explaining why the best perfumes can bring back such powerful memories and transport us to different times and places.
I put this power to good use during the pandemic. If you’d been allowed to visit me during the winter lockdown of 2021 in particular, you’d have been greeted by a blast of sunscreen scents. I couldn’t get enough—Nivea Sun EDT, Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess, To The Fairest Cecile…the more 80’s sun cream vibes the better, each fragrance providing me with amazing holiday memories and instant escapism.
Fast forward to now, and my next holiday is a long way off. April showers are potentially on the horizon, and I’m getting major pangs of longing every time I watch The White Lotus (Four Seasons Koh Samui? Yes please!). In essence, it feels like the perfect moment to indulge in a bit of fragrant travel.
These are my perfect escapist scents to keep you going until you can actually get away.
These are the 5 spring denim trends everyone will be wearing in 2025
Yes, flares really are making a comeback
Despite the unpredictable weather, we’re happy to confirm that it is officially spring. So what better time to start planning your transeasonal weather looks – our top tip for making everyday dressing a breeze.
As a shopping expert with an affinity for denim, I’m currently scouring the best denim new in pages to help refresh my current line-up. From styles that will work both in the office and at the weekend, to hardworking capsule wardrobe pieces that will see me through spring and beyond – I’ve done the research and ready to share.
I drank carrot juice every day for a month to get a tan — and this is the result…
Carrot juice is orange, but can it help tan your skin? Beauty editor Anna Bader tries it out.
Let’s be real — a healthy tan can make us all feel just a little more alive. And after the gruelling grey winter we’ve just been through here in the UK, we could all use a little summery vitality.
Personally, having a little tan instantly puts me in a good mood and magics up a beautiful glow for my face. The trouble is, in winter and spring, my skin is snow-white. I don’t really have any natural tan in my skin. Naturally, I set out on a mission to find a solution that didn’t involve buying countless tanning products or undergoing damaging tanning treatments. So, when I came across the carrot juice hack I was skeptical but too intrigued not to try it.
The textured bob is the carefree cut our hair deserves
Here’s 23 ways to wear it.
The bob haircut remains one of the most searched-for and requested chops you can get, but within the one style, there’s plenty of spin-offs. The textured bob, however, is one of the most laidback and minimal maintenance ways to wear the style.
We’ve seen the Parisian bob and teddy bear bob on some of our favourite stars recently, but there’s also (deep breath): the French bob, the cup bob, the flicked bob, the micro bob and the lob, to name a few. Still with us?
23 best white shirts for women that have the most summer styling potential
A wardrobe essential.
We could wax lyrical about the best white shirts for women, because when it comes to hard-working wardrobe staples, nothing creates a smart – but effortless – look quite like one. Though they’ve rightfully earned a place as a building block in many a capsule wardrobe, they are by no means ‘a boring basic,’ as proved by the spring/summer 2025 runways – where white shirts rightly took their time to shine at some of the biggest and most-loved shows of the season.
The catalyst for the white shirt renaissance was at Saint Laurent, where Bella Hadid (along with many other models) made a case for tailoring by sporting slouchy ’80s-style trouser suits complete with a tie and shirt duo. Worn with pointed-toe heels and fuss-free accessories, timeless white shirts have proven to be the starting block to so many chic outfits for 2025, and beyond.
The best women’s pyjamas to live in throughout spring/summer 2025
A round up of the cutest and cosiest pyjamas on the market right now.
I don’t know about you but the moment I step through the door, the outdoor clothes are off and I’m straight into a pair of the best women’s pyjamas, without hesitation. There’s just something about shedding the day that feels like the ultimate act of self care. That moment of transition is truly unmatched IMO. I love a good loungewear set or tracksuit, too, but a pair of snuggly PJs hits different, doesn’t it?
While they’re an obvious must-have no matter the season, I must say my search history is at an all time high for new nightwear sets at the moment. Aside from bringing out the spring trench coats, jeans and loafers, cosy sleepwear is a spring/summer rite of passage – especially when it comes to sets that are chic enough to wear outside or WFH in.
Butter yellow is the colour trend fashion just can’t leave alone – here’s how to wear it
It’s universally flattering, trust us.
If your fashion taste generally sees you lean more towards neutrals than neons, you’re probably all over the butter yellow trend. While chocolate brown has reigned supreme within this space over autumn/winter, yellow is the new neutral in town that’s ready to usurp the hue for spring/summer.
No you’re not hallucinating, we are recommending that you take your sartorial cues from every bread roll’s best friend. Because whether it’s spread across some sourdough, melting into a pile of new potatoes or taking the form of a sexy, silky slip dress, there’s little more delicious than butter.

“My Mother’s Transformation Was Her Greatest Gift To Me” Artist Mickalene Thomas On The Muse Behind Her Groundbreaking London Show Celebrating Black Women
In the high-ceilinged brutalist halls of London’s Hayward Gallery, Mickalene Thomas’s exhibition, All About Love, unfolds as a glorious homage to Black womanhood in domestic settings that intertwines personal narrative with cultural commentary. Renowned for her vibrant, multilayered, multi-textured, rhinestone-studded portraits, the exhibition, whose title is a nod to bell hooks’ seminal work, centres love – self and otherwise – as a transformative and radical act. Hence Thomas’ practice, which comprises photographs, collages, paintings, installations and films celebrating the beauty, complexity, magic, sexuality, and resilience of Black women is ultimately a love letter to her subject. One of which was Sandra Bush; Thomas’ mother, a former fashion model who battled with addiction for much of her life. She is the woman the pioneering artist refers to as ‘my first muse’.
Liza Minnelli documentary sheds light on those who helped shape a superstar
Documentary filmmaker Bruce David Klein had finished shooting for the day when he was told that his subject, Liza Minnelli, wanted to see him privately. He found her sitting on the edge of her bed.
“She grabbed my hand. She started petting it and she looked up at me with those luminous, dark eyes and said, ‘Bruce, don’t put in anything phony in the movie. Don’t make me look like a phony,’” he said.
After years of arguing with his subjects that they needed to be truthful on film, Minnelli’s request was refreshing. And accepted. The result is the unvarnished documentary “Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story.”
The film, which lands on PBS on Tuesday as part of its American Masters series, offers fresh insight into an EGOT winner who overcame addiction, insecurity and the shadow of her mother — Judy Garland — to become a beloved American icon.
17 Dolly Parton Beauty Moments That Will Go Down in History
Go big or go home.
There are beauty icons, and then there is Dolly Parton. For over six decades, the legendary country singer and songwriter has served up her singular brand of glamour: larger-than-life hair, vivid pageant makeup, and flawless acrylic nails. Today, at 79, she’s as captivating as ever.
What makes Parton’s look so timeless is that it’s unmistakably hers. “What might appear dated or cartoonish to others looks completely right on her because she owns the look. She’s incredibly smart and self-aware, and fully inhabiting this camp, ultra-considered appearance is as much a part of her on-stage persona as the music, outfits, and witty banter,” says Rachael Gibson, a journalist known as The Hair Historian. “She also understands that, as quite a diminutive person, having big hair, bold makeup, and flashy costuming ensures you don’t get lost on stage and that all eyes remain on you.”
Move Over Curtain Bangs, This Spring It’s All About Jane Austen Bangs
Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is not autobiographical, but the famed author and her female protagonist, Elizabeth, do share certain traits. They both faced the same societal pressures, lived in the same place, and—according to eagle-eyed creators on TikTok—even shared the same style of bangs. Art imitates life, as they say!
But it’s not just the fictional Elizabeth who shares the iconic feminist author’s signature Regency-era bangs—the style actually seems to be everywhere these days. Featuring a disheveled fringe that stops just a few millimeters above the eyebrows, Jane Austen bangs are typically slightly rounded and can be worn either wavy, curly, or straight. To get a feel for the original, see portraits of the writer at The Jane Austen Centre in Bath—or just take a peek at Keira Knightley’s hair in the 2005 film version of Pride and Prejudice.
Welcome to the Age of the No-Liner Lip Liner
Beauty is full of contradictions. No makeup makeup, the naked manicure—the trends of yore are meant to look like you’re not wearing anything at all (even though you most definitely are). In this heyday of pared-back glam, it’s only natural that the less-is-more philosophy makes its way to your pout too—for what I’m calling the no-liner lip liner.
The allure of the no-liner look is its undetectability. For when you want to subtly enhance the lips sans filler—that looks so natural that onlookers may just question whether you did in fact get a syringe or two. Refy calls it a Lip Blur, which should create the illusion of instantly fuller lips. Hailey Bieber, on the other hand, calls it a Lip Shape–a product known for its incredible blend-ability perfect for a natural-finish. For Merit, the answer is a sheer lip liner.
The Wild Ride of Carrie Coon
Laurie’s deep-set insecurities come to a head in episode 7 of ‘The White Lotus,’ allowing the actress to turn a “dark night of the soul” into an illuminating time.
Marie Claire: In a lot of ways, this trio is the most relatable group of the guests. Was this a familiar dynamic to you?
Carrie Coon: I know a lot of women who have childhood friends, and they go on girls’s trips every year. That is just not the way my life has unfolded. I looked like a boy until I was 17, and then I was one of those problematic girls who didn’t think I could be friends with girls. I found female friendship very late in my life, and in that way I think my female friendships have a degree of health and stability.
But the writing is excellent and we all understand that these dynamics exist between women. We are forced to compare ourselves to others. Buddhism says that the comparing mind is a source of great pain and suffering, and whether you think you are better or worse, you will have suffering, and you will cause suffering for other people. It just makes perfect sense that this trio of ladies is who Mike has chosen to put into this Buddhist country examining spiritual questions about identity and self and reckoning with your own life choices.
How ‘British Teeth’ Sparked a Smile Revolution
Aimee Lou Wood has spoken of the impact her British teeth has on Americans, but the actor is far from the first English star to embrace an imperfect smile.
The Yanks and Brits have plenty of differences, but among the biggest? The debate over British teeth versus American teeth. Since the dawn of Hollywood, perfectly straight, blindingly white smiles have been the gold standard—just look at Julia Roberts, Halle Berry, and George Clooney.
Lately, the “British teeth” side of the debate has resurfaced with The White Lotus season three, featuring Manchester-born Aimee Lou Wood, who plays Chelsea, whose naturally prominent smile has been trending. “I can’t believe the impact my teeth are having,” Wood said during her appearance on the Jonathan Ross show. “Americans can’t get over them.”
6 Men’s Fashion Trends That’ll Keep You Looking Sharp for Spring 2025
Do you have your dark denim ready?
You don’t need to keep up with the latest men’s fashion trends—but who are we kidding? Some fresh inspiration never hurts when you’re trying to make the most of your capsule wardrobe. This season, menswear is all about relaxed, heritage-inspired coolness: breezy preppy style, retro athletic collars, throw-on-and-go moccasins, and lived-in barn jackets your grandfather could have owned.
On the materials front, hardworking cottons will have a very big spring in the form of lightweight sweaters, durable denim, durable twill outerwear, and crisp button-downs. Accent it with some leather shoes or linen pants and you’re set for the season ahead. Ready to give your current lineup a much-needed refresh? These are the spring 2025 men’s fashion trends we’re most excited to try now.
Yes, your allergies are getting worse
It’s the worst allergy season ever. Again. Just like last year.
The warming spring air is a welcome relief from the bitterly cold winter across much of the US, but millions of seasonal allergy sufferers are getting buried under a pollen tsunami, with sneezing, headaches, watery eyes, and stuffed sinuses sending them right back indoors.
Already, Atlanta has broken its pollen count record, with 14,801 grains per cubic meter spewing from pine, oak, and birch trees. Houston also reported its highest pollen counts since 2013, when records began.

The Force is with Chewbacca!
Chewbacca’s bowcaster, used in the original “Star Wars” trilogy, has sold for $768,600. The item was one of 450 items for bidding by Propstore, a memorabilia company, at its Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction in Los Angeles.
According to the item’s official description, the photo-matched bowcaster prop was used in every film of the original “Star Wars” trilogy, with restored dressing components. It was estimated to fetch $300,000 to $600,000. Chewbacca’s signature bowcaster served as his primary weapon in “Star Wars: A New Hope,” “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi.”
“I Don’t Want This to End”: Tayme Thapthimthong Looks Back on His White Lotus Fever Dream
The White Lotus isn’t known for giving viewers characters they can root for, but Tayme Thapthimthong’s hopelessly smitten security guard Gaitok is an exception. In the HBO show’s third season, which ends this Sunday, the Thai-British newcomer plays the unassuming and smiley Gaitok with a vulnerability and charm that he based on the real-life hotel guards he observed growing up in Thailand while holding his own opposite seasoned actors and global pop royalty. Over Zoom from L.A., the former nightclub bouncer, bodyguard, and army veteran was all smiles as he reflected on his sudden fame, working with Lisa, and how karaoke can bring any cast together.

How to Eat Fiddleheads, According to a Wild Foods Expert
Catch these whimisical vegetables while they are in season—but be aware they aren’t around for long.
As the first signs of spring emerge, you might see one of nature’s most interesting and seasonal edible delicacies, fiddleheads, in the woods or at your farmers market or specialty grocery store. These tightly coiled greens resemble the scroll of a violin and are valued for their crisp texture and earthy flavor. Whether lightly sautéed with butter and garlic or tossed into a fresh spring salad, fiddleheads bring elegance and whimsy to any dish. They’re also packed with vitamins A and C, making them as nourishing as they are delicious. We spoke to a wild foods expert and chef to find out the best way to prepare them so you can take advantage of their brief but beautiful season.
The ‘Unfitted Kitchen’ Trend Will Make Your Space More Stylish and Personal
Here’s how to achieve the bespoke kitchen of your dreams.
Over the past couple of years, a new background has surfaced on influencers’ social media posts in the United Kingdom. Known as the unfitted kitchen, this space includes standalone elements like wooden hutches and butcher-block islands—now, it’s jumping across the pond to the United States.
In short, according to interior designer Claire Zinnecker, this unfitted approach refers to a space that mixes furniture pieces rather than a complete kitchen of cabinets and built-ins. “They allow for flexibility, versatility, and personality,” she adds.
Best of all, virtually anyone can apply this aesthetic to their home for a budget-friendly, custom look. Here, we surveyed interior designers to learn the ins and outs of creating an unfitted kitchen. Read on to get the full scoop.
How to Brew Tea According to Experts, From Choosing the Leaves to Steeping Correctly
It’s time to embrace the teapot.
Tea drinking may be as old as the hills, but it’s constantly evolving. The tea bag has been ubiquitous since the 1950s, but as new generations, notably Gen Z and millennials, acquire the habit, they are trading traditional tea bags for loose-leaf teas, artisanal blends, and fresh flavors. Learning how to brew tea the right way can elevate every cup. We spoke to tea experts and picked up pointers for enhancing the sipping ritual.
This Country Just Dethroned France as Europe’s Most Romantic Destination
Switzerland took the top spot.
Looking to plan an unforgettable romantic getaway for you and the love of your life? Then, it’s time to head to Europe. And no, we’re not talking about France.
In February, European Waterways released the findings of its study ranking the most romantic destinations across Europe. To come to its conclusion, the team evaluated destinations based on their number of romantic and fine dining restaurants, number of restaurants with Michelin stars, number of wine bars rated four stars or above, the number of tours and wine tastings available, and the number of vineyards.
