The Brutalist star and Best Supporting Actress nominee Felicity Jones sported one of the least-mentioned trends of Oscar night – halter necklines – but neither of her gowns quite lived up to their potential, if that makes any sense. Walk with us.

The skirt is gorgeous. We pegged it as Armani Prive at first glance because that liquid organza is pretty much the house signature. We like the sleekness of the design and we don’t even mind the bow, but as we noted in our Cosmo writeup, the bodice looks like an ’80s aerobics body suit shoved into the skirt. Her styling is a little low key for it, but that’s almost always the case with her. The earrings are stunners, however.

It’s just okay – or maybe we’re getting jaded after so many Oscar gowns. She looks good in black and the touches of sparkle are appreciated, but the pattern has something of a hotel wallpaper feel, the bodice is essentially a bib, and the skirt looks a little stiff. It comes down to this with both of these looks: the hassle of wearing each of them doesn’t quite pay off as much as it should.
