Personally, we feel our point has been made and any further observations are extraneous, but we don’t want you to think we’re being lazy about it, so here our thoughts (repeated, because we’ve said them in practically every post linked above): No one is doing it like this man. There’s stylish, and then there’s Colman Domingo, who’s operating on a level of style several strata above almost every other male star. For us, it’s the ways in which he signals and celebrates his Blackness and queerness in his style choices; tipping his hat sometimes to the Pimp Chic styles of the seventies, and embracing the maximalism that defines the best queer style icons. The message is always the same: here is the current exemplar of Black Queer Excellence and he deserves to be celebrated. As for predictions: he’ll likely go the same route he went at last year’s Oscars as a nominee: a slightly dandified take on impeccable classic menswear.
