New York Fashion Week Front Row: Michael Kors Collection Fashion Show Red Carpet Rundown

We suppose the following collection of ladies at the Michael Kors show at New York Fashion Week provides a fairly good visual explanation of why we don’t see more of Michael Kors’ pieces on red carpets and photo calls. It’s because he doesn’t make trendy or discussable fashion. In some cases, he doesn’t even make particularly photogenic fashion. What he makes is good, reliable pieces that never really go out of style and tend to flatter its wearer. Everyone here looks pretty great (with some quibbles), but most of these looks are very straightforward “real world” clothes that don’t tend to generate a lot of buzz or excitement.

Granted, he still makes his concessions to trends, like any mainstream designer would. Case in point: the skirt, which is kind of terrible.

Ella Hunt

Looks great. Those pumps are a little goofy, but we don’t mind them.

Jane Krakowski

That’s probably too much gray for any blonde to handle, but she does look fantastic, we have to admit.

Julianna Margulies

Plain and boring.

Kerry Washington

Hate that neckline and the belt is proportionally too big. This dress feels more appropriate for July.

Lea Michele

We feel like we’ve seen this exact look at every Michael Kors show we’ve covered in the last 15 years.

Lisa Rinna

The pants are terrible. We suspect she hates the shoes.

Nicole Scherzinger

Pretty much perfect, we’d say.

Rachel Brosnahan

These pieces are lovely but we feel like she needs sleeves.

Rachel Zegler

Great print, but we hate the shape of that skirt.

Rose Byrne

He sure is in his Big Belt phase. This one is also too big. And she could use a couple more inches on the hem.

Suki Waterhouse

Cute. He loves that dangling belt trick, but he overdoes it on all his looks.

Uma Thurman

Fantastic color combination.
