We’ll tell you what: If Angelina Jolie and Pamela Anderson wind up getting Oscar nominations for their roles in Maria and The Last Showgirl, it may just end Oscar campaigning as we know it, because both of these iconic beauties have opted to dress as plainly and – we’ll say it – frumpily as possible while promoting their films. As gay red carpet commenters, we can’t help but take that personally. Divas, what are you doing?

To be fair, this isn’t a bad dress at all. Personally, we wouldn’t have recommended it to anyone who’s going through a clean face phase at the moment, because a dress like this needs some styling work in order to look, well… stylish. It’s borderline nunwear as it is. You take away the prospect of sparkle or even pops of color with a dress like this and you’ve committed to looking as bland as humanly possible. We’ve said this plenty of times already but it bears repeating: The problem isn’t that she chooses not to wear makeup. The problem is the kind of fashion choices she’s making. They don’t set off a clean face well at all. Instead of frumpy black dresses, she should be opting for breezy, beachy styles in pales or pastels.
