2024 Academy Museum Gala: WICKED Star Cynthia Erivo in Louis Vuitton: IN or OUT?

You know the drill by now, kittens. While your manly hosts are off recording this week’s podcast (which we should be doing just about exactly when this post goes up), it’s up to you to pick up the Mantle of Judgment and take over our judgy duties. So put your Judge Judy robes on and let’s get to work, shall we? Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, unlike her co-star Ariana Grande, is seemingly going to be doing some form of Elphaba theme-dressing from now until the Oscars.

This is extremely toned-down for her, so we’re going to assume that she’ll be hewing to a more conventional style throughout the promo tour. That’s about half the jewelry she’d normally wear to an event like this, but we think she might have benefitted from toning it down even further, if only because the style of dress really doesn’t call for heavy accessorizing. Ironically, she’s missing the one thing this dress practically demands, which is a necklace. We love nail art and we can understand why she’d want to go a little witchy with it, but the mani doesn’t coordinate well with the dress, in our eyes. If she actually chose a dress with a witchy vibe to it, all of the styling choices would work, but this is more of an Audrey Hepburn style of gown. Are we nitpicking? No, really. We’re asking.
