The cast of Lee came out in some dark and depressing clothing for the film’s London premiere. Aw, we’re just teasing. Actually, a couple of these looks are pretty great. Can you guess which ones, from the above thumbnail? Of course you can!
Kate Winslet in Jenny Packham
We are very excited about this latest development in Kate Winslet’s public style, which has not distinguished itself by having many developments over the years. We’ve been saying for a decade that she’s been in a rut of body-con dresses in non-colors with little in the way of embellishment or interest to them. This is still a fitted dress in black, but the embroidery is beautiful and really elevates the design. The shoulderpads are working and we like the slight flare of the skirt. She looks pretty great.
Alexander Skarsgård in Calvin Klein
He looks like he just woke up in these clothes. We will NEVER sign off on wearing an untucked shirt with a suit.
Andrea Riseborough in Christian Dior
This is gorgeous in that severe, slightly offbeat way that works so well for her. You won’t normally hear us singing the praises of any ensemble that includes a belted sweater, but it’s such a great way to top off that corseted bodice. We think what most appeals to us about this look, aside from how well it suits her, is how it gives you so much to look at. It might not all work perfectly, but we enjoy the energy of it, if that makes any sense.
Andy Samberg
He looks very cute, but this is very dull. We get that he’s probably trying to secure his serious actor bona fides, but that doesn’t mean you have to come dressed like an executive.
ABOUT THE MOVIE:
LEE, the directorial feature from award-winning Cinematographer Ellen Kuras, portrays a pivotal decade in the life of American war correspondent and photographer, Lee Miller (Kate Winslet). Miller’s singular talent and unbridled tenacity resulted in some of the 20th century’s most indelible images of war, including an iconic photo of Miller herself, posing defiantly in Hitler’s private bathtub.
Miller had a profound understanding and empathy for women and the voiceless victims of war. Her images display both the fragility and ferocity of the human experience. Above all, the film shows how Miller lived her life at full-throttle in pursuit of truth, for which she paid a huge personal price, forcing her to confront a traumatic and deeply buried secret from her childhood.
