Let’s wrap this up, shall we? Catch up on all the rest of our 2024 Emmys coverage here. Let’s go judge!
Brie Larson in Chanel
Pin
This would be okay without the bows and the sparkle trim on the bustline and straps. Also, those shoes look boring with it.
Dakota Fanning in Armani Privé
Pin
It’s a gorgeous gown in the worst possible color choice for her. Someone tell those Fanning girls to stop matching their dresses to their hair.
Diane Lane in Prabal Gurung
Pin
It’s an elegant, simple gown, but it doesn’t photograph all that well. Her hair looks too casual with it.
Greta Lee in Loewe
Pin
This does less than nothing for her. We don’t understand why she’d pick it.
Hannah Einbinder (in Louis Vuitton) and Jean Smart (in Laura Basci)
Pin
Jean’s gown is pretty standard mature actress-wear. We might have liked a little something to help set it apart, because it’s completely generic. We appreciate Hannah going for something a little different, but the longer we look at this design the more we dislike it. That bodice is way too tricky and the color is unflattering.
Janelle James in Marchesa
Pin
We suppose the wrinkles and flattened flowers are intentional? To our eyes, it just looks like she slept in this.
Jessica Betts (in Gray) and Niecy Nash-Betts (in Christian Siriano)
Pin
Gorgeousness. Christian did right by Niecy. Love Jessica’s suit, but we wish they hadn’t tried to go matchy (because they don’t match).
Juno Temple in Vintage Roberto Cavalli
Pin
It definitely suits her, but the look feels understyled somehow. The hair is great, but we would not have recommended matching shoes, let alone a tiger bag. The jewelry’s not doing anything for the look.
Kali Reis in Jovana Louis
Pin
LOVED this. It’s strong, declarative, culturally important to the wearer, extremely well-suited to her, and it looks like nothing else that walked that red carpet. Our only critique is that the jacket looks like it’s hanging off her. A better fit was needed there.
Kathy Bates in Giorgio Armani
Pin
She looks fantastic. The bag’s a bit distracting.
Kristen Wiig in Oscar de la Renta
Pin
A couple people asked why this wasn’t in our Silver Girls post, but to our eyes, it looks green. Given that she’s not standing near anything green, we assume it’s not a reflection. She looks great, but the design is a little overwrought. Could’ve done without that hem situation.
Kristin Scott Thomas in Miu Miu
Pin
We don’t understand the thinking here. She looks fantastic – from the neck up. The earrings are pure stunners and the dress is just about the most drably unflattering frock we’ve seen all year. The shoes and bag don’t go with it at all.
Leslie Bibb in Michael Kors Collection
Pin
It’s okay. Another outfit where the earrings are the best part of it.
Lily Gladstone in Rodarte
Pin
Gorgeously unexpected – unless you’re the type who expects bronze breast plates at entertainment award shows. The dress is by Rodarte, but the breastplate was made by Indigenous artist Agnes Seaweed Wisden.
Lisa Ann Walter in Gaby Charbachy
Pin
The design is fine, but the color combo is terrible.
Liza Colón-Zayas in Christian Siriano
Pin
Looks like a winner to us. The design is basic but the color is amazing on her.
Maya Rudolph in Chloé
Pin
We’re surprised to admit that we sort of like this for her. She has boho preferences and she likes her fashion to be on the roomy side, but there are only so many times you can hit a red carpet in a caftan. This is softly romantic and it suits her. Do we love all the ruffles? No. We don’t like the color or the boots either, but we still think this is a good choice for her.
Meryl Streep in Alexander McQueen
Pin
Love this. It’s strong and confident, but it allows her the comfort and professional air she likes to maintain.
Naomi Watts in Balenciaga
Pin
It’s okay. She doesn’t look bad in it, but the style and color feel stale.
Nava Mau in Gigi Goode
Pin
This is eye-catching and unusual. It suits her really well and it’s nice that she’s wearing a trans designer’s work (Drag Race Alum Gigi Goode, who just released her first collection). Our only issue is with the clunky footwear.
Reese Witherspoon in Christian Dior
Pin
Pretty and respectable, which is how she likes it.
Rita Ora (in Tamara Ralph) and Taika Waititi
Pin
We wouldn’t want to be stuck on an elevator with them, but they look pretty good here. The white pants are wrong, however.
Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden in Louis Vuitton
Pin
Congrats to the newlyweds who also look like siblings. He’s impeccable. That drapey thing on her bandeau looks dumb.
Sarah Paulson (in Prada) and Holland Taylor (in Louis Vuitton)
Pin
Sarah’s dress starts off underdesigned and becomes overdesigned as you look down. While the top half definitely needs something, the entire black and white portion should go. Holland looks great.
Sofia Vergara in Dolce & Gabbana
Pin
You’ll pry this style of gown out of her cold, dead hands. Can’t blame her for going with what works.
Viola Davis in Zuhair Murad
Pin
A classic style that looks fantastic on her.
